Setting up the game
- Place the 5 locations on a flat playing surface and assign them a number: 1-5 going from left to right. You may use the optional mini location cards for numbering if you wish.
- Each player takes a player pawn and the packages matching their colour. In a 2-player game each player takes 12 packages. In a 3 or 4-player game each player takes 10 packages.
- Randomly decide which player will go first (use your imagination – we don't need to tell you how to do everything). Play continues clockwise after the first player has finished their turn.
Playing the game
Each turn the active player rolls the die and selects one of the following actions:
- On a roll of 1-5, move your player pawn to the location number rolled and place one of your packages at that location.
- On a roll of 6, the player may do one of the following:
- Place a package at the location you currently occupy.
- Select a package of any colour at the location you currently occupy and remove it from the game.
- Place a package at any location that you do not currently have a package at (do not move your player pawn).
- Alternatively on any roll, select one location that has the same number of packages placed there as the number you rolled and move one of those packages to location 1 (e.g. If you roll 4, you may choose a location with exactly four packages placed at it and move one of them to location 1).
Note: Depending on the number rolled or the number of packages present at locations, some options may not be possible. You must always select an action that you can perform.
Rolling the location you already occupy…
If you roll the location number that you already occupy and select the option to place a package here (rather than moving a package to location 1), then in addition you may also take one of the following actions after placing that package:
- Move any package at this location up to the next numbered location (e.g. if you are at location 2, you may move either one of your own, or one of an opponent's packages here up to location 3). This may not be done if you are already at location 5.
- Move any package at this location down to the next numbered location (e.g. if you are at location 2, you may move either one of your own, or one of an opponent's packages here down to location 1). If you are at location number 1 then a package at this location may instead be removed from the game.
- Move your player pawn to any other location (you do not place another package when you move there.)
You may not take one of these additional actions if an opposing player pawn also occupies your location. Instead, you may move your opponent's player pawn to any other location of your choice. If multiple opponents share your location then you may select one to move.
Placing your 3rd package…
When you place your 3rd package at a location, you may also move any one package at this location down to the next numbered location (e.g. if you are at location 2, you may move one of your own, or one of an opponent's packages here down to location 1). If you are at location number 1 then a package at this location may instead be removed from the game.
Note: This may only be done on placement of your 3rd package at a location, not your 4th/5th etc.
The special delivery…
When you place one of your packages at a location that already contains three or more packages of the same opposing colour, you may also remove one of those opposing packages from the game.
Note: If multiple players have three or more packages in a location then you may select which colour you remove.
The final turn…
Once you have placed your final package, your following turn will be your final turn of the game. This turn is handled differently to previous turns. On your final turn, roll the die and select one of the following actions if you wish:
- Select one location that currently holds a number of packages of the same colour equal to the number you rolled and remove one of those packages from the game (e.g. green player rolls 4. If an opposing player has exactly 4 packages at any location, then the green player may choose to remove one of those packages from the game).
- Move one of your packages at the location number rolled, up to the next numbered location. This may not be done on a roll of 5. On a roll of 6, you may move any one of your packages on the table, up to the next numbered location. Note: The moved package may still trigger the effects of 'Placing your 3rd package' and 'The special delivery'.
- Move your player pawn to the location number rolled. On a roll of 6 you may move your player pawn to any location of your choice.
Note: Your final turn is optional and you may choose to do nothing. After your final turn, play continues until all other players have placed their remaining packages and taken their final turn.
Scoring
Scoring takes place after the last player has taken their final turn. Points are awarded for each package as follows:
- Each package is worth a number of points equal to the location number it is placed at (e.g. packages at location 1 are worth one point each, location 2 worth two points, etc). You may only score points for up to three packages at each of locations 4 and 5 (max of twelve and fifteen points respectively per player). Additional packages of the same colour at these locations still count towards the bonuses stated below. There are no limits to how many packages that score points at locations 1, 2 and 3.
- Bonus: Your player pawn is worth points equal to the location number it occupies, plus the number of packages you have remaining at that location (e.g. your player pawn is at location 3 and you have two packages there. You score five bonus points). You must have at least one of your packages at this location to score any points from this bonus. This bonus is not applied if another player also occupies your location.
- Bonus: Each set of three packages at any one location is worth an additional two points.
The player with the highest number of points wins and earns the right to brag about it. If it's a draw, flip a coin or something!
Example of scoring
The green player has ended the game occupying location 3 and has packages as follows:
- Location 1 – two packages
- Location 2 – three packages
- Location 3 – two packages
- Location 4 – no packages
- Location 5 – one package
(Total of eight packages remaining in the game).
Green player would score: One point for each package at location 1 (total of two points), two points for each package at location 2 (total of six points), three points for each package at location 3 (total of six points), no points for location 4, and five points for the single package at location 5 (total of five points). The player occupies location 3 (and is the only player located there) and so scores three points, plus one each for the two packages they have there (total of five points). Finally, the green player has a set of three packages at location 2, so scores two bonus points for them (total of two points).
Total points: 2+6+6+5+5+2 = 26
Notes about actions & combinations…
- When a package is moved as a result of an action, that package counts as being 'placed' for the purposes of 'Placing your 3rd package' and 'The special delivery'.
- It is possible for a number of actions to be chained together. When this happens, each is resolved one after another. If any actions occur simultaneously, then the player whose turn it is decides the order in which those actions occur.
Important: When a moved package triggers an additional action, the owning player of the moved package takes that action. These actions are taken out of normal turn sequence (see step 5 of the following example).
Example of a possible combination of actions
The following is an example of a possible combination of actions:
- Green player is at location 4. He rolls 4 and places a new package at that location.
- As pink player already has three packages at location 4, green player follows the rules for 'The special delivery' and removes one of them from the game.
- Also, the package placed was green player's 3rd package at location 4, so green player follows the rules for 'Placing your 3rd package' and moves one of pink player's packages at location 4 down by one location.
- Also, as no other player pawn is present at this location, green player follows the rules for 'Rolling the location you already occupy', and chooses to move one of their packages up by one location.
- This combination of actions will continue at location 3 where pink player may now apply the rules of 'Placing your 3rd package', which may trigger further moves at location 2 and so on.
