Aim
To be the first player to collect nine Pizza Cards and build their giant pizza slice.
Setting the Table
Take a pile of Pizza Cards (around 40 or so) and place them, category-side up, in the middle of the table. One by one, flip the top three cards and lay them around the deck, pizza-side up, as shown below.
If the middle runs out of Pizza Cards, just top it up with cards from the box.
When everyone's ready, discard the Pizza Card on top of the pile to reveal a brand-new one. The first round starts straight away!
Scoring Slices
On each card there are three categories. Green ones are the easiest, yellow ones are a bit trickier, and red ones are the hardest. The category you choose will affect where the card can go in your giant pizza slice (more on this later).
As soon as the round starts, try to think of a word that fits one of the categories and begins with the letter facing it. The first player to shout out a correct answer wins the round.
As a reward, they take the Pizza Card with the letter they used (not the one in the middle) and add it to their collection. Then, they take the Pizza Card in the middle (with the categories on) and flip it over, replacing the old letter card and revealing the next card in the deck.
The next round starts straight away!
Example
If a player said "Utah" for an American state, they would add this card to their collection.
If a player said "Chocolate" for a flavour of ice cream, they would add this card to their collection.
At the start of every round, the face-up Pizza Card in the middle is always flipped over to fill the empty space.
Building Your Giant Pizza Slice
The aim of the game is to win Pizza Cards and build a giant pizza slice. You must always start by building your bottom level (5 cards), then move on to the second level (3 cards) before finishing it off with the top level (1 card).
Eventually, it should look like this: Top - 1 card. Middle - 3 cards. Bottom - 5 cards.
However, the bigger your slice gets, the harder the game becomes! When you start building your second level, you can only shout out answers from medium (yellow) and hard (red) categories. When building your top level, you can only shout out answers from the hard category.
Winning
The first player to win 9 cards and successfully build their giant pizza slice is the winner.
Extra Nibbles
- If two people shout out an answer at the same time, neither of them win the card and the round continues.
- If no one can think of an answer in a round, discard the top Pizza Card to reveal a new set of categories. Everyone must agree before doing so.
- To make things easier, younger players can build all three levels of their slice using any category they want.
- If a player shouts out an answer from a category that they can no longer use, the round continues as normal.
Remember!
Easy — If you answered an easy category, you can only place it on the bottom level.
Medium — If you answered a medium category, you can place it on either the middle or bottom level.
Hard — If you answered a hard category, you can place it on the top, middle or bottom level.
Stop! — You must build your bottom layer first, then the middle, followed by the top. No skipping ahead!
