1. Remember, the objective of OVER/UNDER is to have fun. Being "right" is helpful, but trying too hard to be "right" will limit your enjoyment of the game. Therefore, accessing the internet or otherwise looking up answers is a big "NO NO" while playing OVER/UNDER.
2. Divide the group in to 3-4 evenly matched teams of clever people. Teams may be one or more players.
3. Each team or player chooses a team color and takes the corresponding colored mover piece and power tokens. Each team places their colored mover piece on the "START" space on the board. The player with the next birthday goes first.
4. The first team rolls the die. a. If the die comes up with "+2", the team moves forward two spaces. If the die is "-2", the team moves backward two spaces. After moving ahead/back two spaces, the turn is over. Note: If a team rolls a "-2" while on the Start space, roll again. b. If the die comes up on a color, the team must draw a card from the corresponding colored deck and pose the OVER/UNDER question to the group. The player shall then state the "LINE" which is in the black oval on the center of the card. The reader will not reveal the answer until every listening team has played their power token. NOTE: The Reading Team does not answer the question on their turn.
THIS IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS
5. The group will listen to the question and attempt to determine if the true answer is "over" the line or "under" the line. The timer should be started when the question has been presented in it's entirety.
6. Each listening team will secretly place a power token FACE UP under their hand on the table. The FACE UP side should have OVER or UNDER with the number corresponding to their confidence that the correct answer is OVER or UNDER the line. (1 indicates "no earthly idea" up to 5 which indicates "100% for sure"). For example: a. Reader reads the question: "Over under on the time it takes a blood cell to make a complete circuit of the human body. The LINE is 2 minutes, 12 seconds." TEAM A secretly hides the UNDER 4 power token beneath their hand and face up on the table. b. The reader states the answer: "21 seconds. The answer is Under."
Example Card
The panel shows a sample card headed "FUN FOOD FACTS" with these printed parts:
- QUESTION: "Over under on the number of varieties of apples grown throughout the world"
- LINE (black oval at the centre of the card): 600
- FACTOID: "There are over 7,500 known varieties of apples!"
- ANSWER: "Over!"
Callout labels beside the example card, in order:
- "One team reads the QUESTION, then they read THE LINE"
- "Listening Teams guess "Over" or "Under" then the team reads the FACTOID and then the ANSWER"
