Object

Get a battery from one of the abandoned stores and return to the shack without being turned into a zombie. Use zombies to prevent other players from getting back to the shack before you.

Contents

1 Gameboard, 3 Dice, 4 Human Playing Pieces, 10 Zombie Playing Pieces (6 regular zombies, 4 human playing pieces that have been turned into zombies), 18 Oh No... Zombies! Cards, 16 Weapon/Battery Cards (2 Torch Cards, 2 Shovel Cards, 4 Cricket Bat Cards, 4 Shotgun Cards, 4 Battery Cards).

Set Up

  1. Place the gameboard on a flat surface.
  2. Place the Oh No... Zombies! Cards in one pile facedown somewhere near the gameboard.
  3. Place the Torch, Shovel and Cricket Bat Cards on the spaces assigned to them on the gameboard.
  4. Place a Shotgun and Battery Card on each Abandoned Store Space in the corner of the board.
  5. Place one of the six green Zombie Playing Pieces on each of the Headstone Spaces.
  6. Each player chooses a Human Playing Piece and puts it on the Shack Space at the center of the gameboard.

How to Play the Game

  1. Roll one die to see who goes first.
  2. First player rolls the white die and moves their playing piece in any direction out of the Shack Space.
  3. Player to the right of the first player moves zombies by rolling both the black and multi-colored die. The multi-colored die indicates which color zombies to move. The black die indicates how many spaces to move those zombies (see inset). Inset: "Color of Zombies to move." / "Number of spaces to move them."
  4. Player to the left rolls the white die and takes their turn, etc.

Winning the Game

The first player to make it back to the Shack Space with a Battery Card for the radio wins!

If your player is turned into a zombie and turns the last human player into a zombie, you win!

If a non-player zombie turns the last human into a zombie then the zombies win!

Game Spaces & Cards

Shack Space: This is where the game starts and ends (if someone makes it back with a Battery Card).

Torch Space: If a player lands on a Torch Space with an exact roll, and there is still a Torch Card on the space, they get to take the card. The Torch Card allows you to fend off a zombie and move 2 spaces in any direction. After you've used your Torch Card you should put it back on the board where you found it. A player may have more than one weapon at a time.

Shovel Space: If a player lands on a Shovel Space with an exact roll, and there is still a Shovel Card on the space, they get to take the card. The Shovel Card allows you to fend off a zombie and move 3 spaces in any direction. After you've used your Shovel Card you should put it back on the board where you found it. A player may have more than one weapon at a time.

Cricket Bat Space: If a player lands on a Cricket Bat Space with an exact roll, and there is still a Cricket Bat Card on the space, they get to take the card. The Cricket Bat Card allows you to fend off a zombie and move 4 spaces in any direction. After you've used your Cricket Bat Card you should put it back on the board where you found it. A player may have more than one weapon at a time.

Abandoned Store Spaces: If a player makes it to one of the Abandoned Store Spaces in the corners of the board, and there is still a Shotgun Card and a Battery Card inside, they may take both cards. The Shotgun Card allows you to kill a zombie and remove it from the board permanently. After you've used your Shotgun Card it is removed from the game. The Battery Card is what you need to have in your possession when you get back to the Shack Space in order to win the game!

Zombie Attack! Card: Draw one of these cards and follow its instructions if you do not have a weapon and come in contact with a zombie. These cards determine whether you live or turn into a zombie.

Player Movement

  1. Once a player leaves the Shack Space they cannot reenter unless they have a battery for the radio. When they do come back, they must land on the Shack Space exactly.
  2. A player controlling a human playing piece can always run away from a zombie if they choose.
  3. Players can pass each other and land on the same space as other players.
  4. Players cannot move past a space with a zombie on it. If a player's roll forces them to pass a space with a zombie on it, that player stops on that space instead and fights the zombie (see FIGHTING ZOMBIES section).
  5. To pick up Weapon Cards along the path a player must land on the weapon space exactly or run into a zombie that is standing on a weapon space (see FIGHTING ZOMBIES, Number 1).
  6. To enter one of the Abandoned Store Spaces in the corners of the board, a player can get in with an exact roll or higher. Entering a store ends your turn.

Zombie Movement

  1. If any zombie is able to attack a player it MUST attack that player (even if that player is you).
  2. Zombies can pass each other and land on the same space as other zombies.
  3. Zombies cannot move past a space with a player on it. If a roll could move a zombie past a space with a player on it, that zombie stops on that space instead and attacks the player (see FIGHTING ZOMBIES section).
  4. When you are moving two zombies you choose which one to move first.
  5. If you are moving two zombies and the first one attacks a player, you must resolve the fight before moving the second zombie.
  6. If a zombie is an equal distance from two or more players, the person controlling the zombie chooses which player to attack.
  7. Zombies cannot move into the Shack Space or any of the Abandoned Store Spaces.

Fighting Zombies

Follow these steps if you are forced to run into a zombie or a zombie attacks you:

a) If you have no weapons draw an Oh No... Zombies! Card and follow its instructions.

b) If you have a Torch, Shovel, Cricket Bat or Shotgun Card you may use it to fend off or kill a zombie (see GAME SPACES & CARDS section).

Other zombie fight scenarios:

  1. If a player fights a zombie that is standing on a space with a Weapon Card, that player may pick up the Weapon Card first and then fight the zombie.

  2. If a player is forced or chooses to land on a space with two zombies, that player gets to choose which zombie to fight first. If the first fight results in the player moving away then that player does not have to fight the second zombie.

  3. If a player kills a zombie that is in possession of a Battery Card (only possible if a human player retrieved a battery and then was turned into a zombie), that player can take the Battery Card.

[The printed list has no item 4; numbering is kept as printed.]

  4. Follow these steps if a zombie lands on a space with two players on it:

    a) If one player has a Weapon Card, that player fights the zombie first. If the zombie is still alive after fighting the first player, it then fights the second player.

    b) If both or neither player has a Weapon Card then the player whose turn would be next fights the zombie first. If the zombie is still alive after fighting the first player, it then fights the second player.

Becoming a Zombie

If your Oh No... Zombies! Card turns you into a zombie then you are now on the hunt for humans! Switch out your human player for its zombie equivalent and continue play as normal except on your turn move your zombie player to try and prevent the human players from getting back to the shack. If you turn the last remaining human player into a zombie, you win! However, if you are killed by a human player your playing piece is removed and you are out of the game entirely (including moving other zombie pieces).
