Four Races

Creatures: Phoenix, Ice Phoenix, Griffin, Armor Griffin, Gluttony Dragon.

Elfies

The Elfies were once human beings. Due to years of researching card magic, their appearance grew more and more like poker cards.

The Mythic are a combination of different fantasy creatures of the Secret Forest. Rainbow Unicorn is their leader.

Creatures: Ent, Ent Warrior, Unicorn, Rainbow Unicorn.

Creatures: Golemini, Golemotor, Golem, Goliathem.

Basic Rules

Game Object

The main object of the game is to deliver cupcakes to Zerda Fox. Players are given a certain amount of cupcakes at the beginning of the game. As the game goes on, cupcakes will be eaten. The first player to successfully deliver at least one cupcake to the destination is the winner.

Starting the Game

  1. Setup the map according to the previous page (Map Setup).
  2. At the beginning of each game, shuffle each pile of creature cards before placing on the correct colors.
  3. Pick a hero figure of your choice, then decide the playing order. Each player starts with 15 cupcakes.
  4. Choose a tent as the starting point. Different players can choose the same tent.

Legendary Creature Cards

Each legendary creature card shows:

  • Name
  • Race: Different races of creatures are scattered among card piles.
  • Appetite: The amount of cupcakes a creature eats.

Learning more about creature cards will help you win the game! (Guidebook note.)

Playing the Game

Each turn, players can choose from one of the following actions:

1. Move. Starting from a tent, move to the adjacent game space. Later on, follow the connected game spaces, moving one space a turn.

After moving, draw a card according to the color of the game space. Discard cupcakes following the creature's appetite.

The guidebook marks the move sequence with four illustrations, labelled Step I to Step IV. Step I shows the move (a hero figure leaving a tent along the path). Steps II to IV are illustrations with no printed captions; they show the drawing of a creature card from its pile, a card with cupcakes beside it (the appetite discard), and the card being placed back on its pile.

Note: If a player runs out of cupcakes, he/she will be sent back to a starting point. Cupcakes are refilled to 15, and a flavor of ice cream can be selected for free.

2. Cupcake Supply. The maximum number of cupcakes is 15. If the cupcake number of a player is less than 15, he/she can stay and supply 1 cupcake without drawing a creature card.

3. Ice Cream Collection. Players can also choose to stay and collect an ice cream of choice instead of a cupcake. Each flavor of ice cream can replace a cupcake when they match. Ice creams will not be consumed after use.

An ice cream can replace a cupcake when it matches. (The guidebook's Match and Doesn't Match illustrations show a green ice cream matching the icon on a Unicorn card, and a blue ice cream that does not match the same card. The "+1" in the collection illustration has no caption.)

When the same flavor of ice cream is collected more than once, the effect will be accumulated.

Ending the Game

In the basic game, the first player to arrive at the ending point with at least one cupcake remaining will be the winner and will be rewarded with the super ice cream. Note that the creature from the last game space must be fed.

Complete Rules

New Object

Following the basic game rule, players have to successfully arrive at the destination 3 times in a roll in the complete game.

Playing the Game

The rules of the complete game are mostly the same as the basic game. The difference is that each time players arrive at the destination, they will collect number balloons one at a time. Players will also be supplied with 12 cupcakes and must start all over again from any tent they prefer.

Each time a player arrives at the destination, the guidebook marks three steps with illustrations (no captions printed beyond the step labels):

  • Step I. Collect a number balloon (illustration shows +1 balloon).
  • Step II. Receive cupcakes (illustration shows +12 cupcakes).
  • Step III. Start again from a tent (illustration shows an arrow back to a tent; the text above states the player "must start all over again from any tent they prefer").

Note: The maximum number of cupcakes is 15; put back some if a player has more.

Ending the Game

In the complete game, the first player to collect balloon numbers 1, 2, and 3 is the winner.

Note: If a player has one or more balloons in hand, but runs out of cupcakes at some point, restart from a tent, and balloons will not disappear.

Advanced Rules

After playing the basic and complete rules, try adding advanced rules to the game, and enjoy the excitement!

Joining Races

Which race is your favorite? Each player can choose to join one race before starting a game. When encountering creatures from the same race, no cupcakes is required to feed them.

The guidebook shows the four race badges: Archaic, Mythic, Elfie, Fliers.

Super Mix

After playing for a couple of times, players will be familiar with the decks. Try mixing different colors of cards, and scatter them evenly on the map. Now, draw cards by matching the game space colors with the grid colors to play a whole new combination.

Zerda's Magical Die

Besides the original 3 actions: move, supply and collect ice cream, Zerda Fox provides the 4th action: roll his magical die. Try your luck by using the magical die at important moments.

Six Events of The Die (the guidebook shows six faces):

  • Four ice cream faces (blue, green, beige and brown): "Collect the specific ice cream as shown." (The caption is printed under the lower two ice cream faces.)
  • Cupcake x2 face: Supply 2 cupcakes.
  • Card pile face: Peek a card from a random pile.

Cupcake From Secret Forest (Bonus)

The winner of Numeracy Legends and The Rainbow Unicorn receives a large cupcake. Use it as an additional cupcake in the beginning of this game!

Check It Out: An Experience of Uncertainty

In the Zerda Fox game, the speed of moving from space to space is affected by the uncertainty of creature cards. However, as the game goes on, players can somewhat control their destiny through memory and decision. Let's see how "probability" plays a role in this game.

Game Analysis

Memory Challenge and Route Decision. In each game, there are certain distributions of creature cards within piles. Memorizing the cards and their orders will help route decision making.

Ice Cream and Creatures. Whether ice cream flavors match with creatures will greatly determine the fate of players. Choose flavors and routes wisely so that you can make the most of your ice cream.

Probability Everywhere

Probability is the measure of all types of uncertainties in our daily lives. As complicated as risk management and finance, or as simple as waiting a bus, many daily tasks can be measured by probability.

(The guidebook's last page carries photographs captioned "Calculation within many card games greatly boosts the probability of winning.")
