Dear Parents

You have made a wonderful choice and are opening up many opportunities for your child to develop through play. These instructions include tips on how you can explore the game materials together with your child. While playing, your child practices a variety of important skills: recognizing and matching colors and shapes, hand–eye coordination, fine motor skills, and language development. Learning happens almost effortlessly along the way, because one thing matters the most: playing is fun!

Before the First Game

Important! Dear parents, please remove the band and carefully press the game pieces out of the punchboards. For safety reasons, please dispose of the following: the band, the punchboard frames, the narrow cardboard strips, and all parts marked with the "Small parts. Choking hazard." symbol. These pieces are not needed for the game.

What's Included

  • 1 spoon
  • 10 wooden ingredients (heart, drop, clover, star, apple)
  • 12 tokens (front: heart, drop, clover, star, apple; back: Unicorn Rosalie)
  • 1 die
  • 1 plate
  • 1 pot with lid

Before You Begin

The assembly must be done by an adult.

Assembling the Pot and Lid

These only need to be assembled once. After the game, the assembled lid fits upside down into the hole in the game board.

  1. As shown in the illustration, assemble the cross insert (A) and place it in the bottom of the box.
  2. Place the game board (B) on top of the cross insert.
  3. Fold the handle (C) in the middle and insert it through the slot in the lid (D). Then slide the locking piece (E) through the slot in the handle until it is secured.

Free Play and Discovering Details

In free play, children explore the game materials in their own way. Join in and play together! Discover the game pieces as a team. Talk about what you see and what you can do with them. The theme of cooking is perfect for imaginative pretend play. Encourage your child to prepare delicious dishes and serve their wonderful creations.

To help children dive even deeper into pretend play, act as if the ingredients are real. Smell each ingredient and say things like, "Oh, that looks delicious. I'm already very hungry!" You'll see how much fun the children have with it.

Game 1: What Are We Cooking Today?

A first matching game.

Before You Begin

Sit around the pot and place the lid on top. From the tokens, find the two that show Unicorn Rosalie on both sides and place them in the box lid. They will only be needed for Game 2. Spread the remaining tokens face up next to the pot so everyone can easily reach them. Place the ingredients on the plate. Set the spoon and the die ready.

Let's Get Started

Play in turns, going clockwise. Who already helps prepare meals at home? You start and roll the die. What do you see on the die?

  • The chef's hat? Now you may choose the ingredient you like best. Name the ingredient, take the lid off the pot, and place the matching wooden piece inside. Put the lid back on the pot. Then take the matching token and place it face down in front of you.
  • An ingredient? Name the ingredient and look carefully to see if it is on the plate.
    • Yes. Take the lid off the pot and place the matching wooden piece inside. Put the lid back on the pot. Then take the matching token and place it face down in front of you.
    • No. The ingredient is not on the plate. Unfortunately, you cannot add an ingredient to the pot and therefore do not receive a token. Instead, take the spoon and gently stir the soup three times!

Then it is the next child's turn.

End of the Game

If all the ingredients are in the pot and all the tiles have been distributed among you, the game ends. The child who added the last ingredient takes the spoon, gives everything one more careful stir, and calls everyone to eat. Bon Appetit! Mmm, that's delicious! Now stack the tiles you collected into a pile. Whoever has the tallest stack wins. If there is a tie, you win together.

By practicing again and again, children learn to carry out simple game actions independently. Support the children's play with simple, calmly spoken sentences and encourage them to take or reveal the die or tiles themselves. This helps them quickly become comfortable with basic game actions and enjoy the game.

Game 2: Where's My Ingredient?

A first memory game.

Before You Begin

Sit around the pot. Place the ingredients on the plate. Which ingredient do you like best? Take turns choosing a wooden piece and placing it into the pot until there are 4 pieces inside. Then put the lid on the pot. Stack the 12 tiles face down next to the pot. Keep the spoon and the die ready.

Let's Get Started

Take turns playing in a clockwise direction. The oldest child begins and rolls the die. What does the die show?

  • An ingredient. Name the ingredient. Then say whether the matching wooden piece is in the pot or not.
  • The chef's hat. Name any one of the 5 ingredients. Then tell everyone whether the matching wooden piece is in the pot or not.

Now check by lifting the lid off the pot. Were you right?

  • Yes. Great! You take one tile from the stack. If the matching wooden piece is in the pot, take it out and place it on the plate. If it is not in the pot, put it into the pot.
  • No. Too bad, maybe next time! Unfortunately, you do not get a tile. The wooden pieces stay where they are, and one tile from the stack is removed from the game.

Then put the lid back on the pot. The next child now takes their turn and rolls the die.

When Does the Game End?

The game ends as soon as the stack of tiles is empty. Then each of you stacks the tiles you collected and compares your stacks. Whoever has the tallest stack wins. If there is a tie, you win together.

Tip: The game becomes more challenging if you cover the ingredients on the plate.
