Components

  • 6 Dwarf cards
  • 9 Mine cards (including 1 Mine Exit card, 1 Cart card, 1 Dragobert card)
  • 58 Extraction cards
  • 16 Exit cards
  • 6 Dwarves (wooden discs and their stickers)
  • 12 Big Nuggets

Goal

A game is made up of three rounds. In the first two rounds, players can earn Big Nuggets, which will give them an advantage at the end of the third round. Whoever has accumulated the most gold by the end of the game wins!

Setup

Before your first game, stick the six stickers onto the wooden discs that match their color.

  • Place the 9 Mine cards blue-side up in front of you as shown in the diagram: this represents the mine. Place the Mine Exit card at the far left and the Dragobert card at the far right. Place the Cart card in the middle of the track. Place the 6 remaining Mine cards between the Cart card and the two other cards (their order does not matter).

  • Each player takes 1 Dwarf card and the matching Dwarf disc. Place the Dwarf cards in front of you. Place your Dwarf discs on the Cart card.

If you are playing with 2 players, check the rules for the "Double Draw" variant for 2 players on page 9.

  • Shuffle all the Extraction cards and form a face-up draw pile (front side revealed). If the first card is a dragon, reshuffle the pile until a (or several) gold nugget is visible.

  • Shuffle the Exit cards and form a face-down pile next to the first draw pile.

  • Place the 12 Big Nuggets nearby.

Tip: you can use the unfolded box lid to hold the two draw piles and the Big Nugget supply.

How to Play

The youngest dwarf among you goes first.

On your turn, you have 2 options:

A Draw 1 Extraction card to collect gold;

or

B Draw 1 Exit card to get yourself to safety (by moving away from the dragon) or to push the others to hurry out of the mine.

Then it's the next player's turn, in clockwise order.

A. If you draw an Extraction card

There are 4 types of Extraction cards. 3 of them earn you nuggets:

"A Dragon's Golden Eggs" (card with 2 gold nuggets and 1 red door) Move your Dwarf disc 1 card to the right, toward the Dragobert card.

"Gold, Monseigneur!" (card with 1 gold nugget and 1 blue door) Move your Dwarf disc 1 card to the left, toward the Mine Exit card.

"I Love Gold!" (card with 1 gold nugget and no door) Your dwarf stays where it is.

When you draw one of these 3 cards, carry out the corresponding move (if any), then place the card face down in front of you. This is how you stack up the gold you've gathered in the mine.

Among the Extraction cards, you will find a 4th type of card that shows no nugget, but a dragon instead:

"A Dragon! A DRAGON!" If Dragobert appears on top of the draw pile after one of you has drawn a card, the dragon immediately moves 1 card to the left, toward the Mine Exit, breathing fire as it goes. Swap the Dragobert card with the blue Mine card to its left. Then flip that Mine card (now to the right of the dragon) to its red side.

If any Dwarf discs were on the Mine card that was moved and flipped, the players controlling those dwarves are eliminated from the round. They immediately put back the Extraction cards they had gathered so far into the box and place their Dwarf disc on their Dwarf card. They do not take part in that round's scoring.

Remove the Extraction card that represented the dragon and put it back in the box (you will reshuffle it in with the Extraction cards for the next round).

Watch out: if a new dragon appears on top of the Extraction draw pile, Dragobert moves toward the Mine Exit again. Repeat the same steps and eliminate any players in its path in the same way. Then remove this second dragon card and put it back in the box.

Keep going this way until there is no more dragon card on top of the draw pile.

If Dragobert reaches the Mine card next to the Mine Exit card (to its right), the round ends immediately. The dragon cannot continue moving to the left, even if you reveal another dragon card.

B. If you draw an Exit card

There are 5 different types of Exit actions:

"Small Step" Move your Dwarf disc 1 card to the left, toward the Mine Exit.

"Double Step" Move your Dwarf disc 2 cards to the left, toward the Mine Exit. If the 1st step is enough to reach the Mine Exit, ignore the 2nd step: you leave the mine.

"All Together!" Move all Dwarf discs 1 card to the left, toward the Mine Exit.

"Inter-Dwarf-National Swap" Swap your Dwarf disc with that of any other dwarf present in the mine.

"Gold Bonus" Place this card face down on your nugget pile (if you choose the gold bonus, since this card offers 2 possible actions). You may then add 3 gold nuggets to your score at the end of the round.

If an Exit card shows 2 actions, choose whichever suits you. If you cannot carry out one of the 2 actions shown, you must choose the other one.

Used Exit cards are then placed face up in a discard pile next to the Exit draw pile (except for the Gold Bonus card, which the player keeps in front of them). When the Exit draw pile is empty, shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.

When a dwarf reaches the Mine Exit card, it stops playing for that round. It places its Dwarf disc on the highest free spot on the Mine Exit card. The player and their nuggets are then protected from Dragobert.

A dwarf can also reach the Mine Exit as a result of an "All Together!" Exit card. If several dwarves reach the Mine Exit at the same time, place them on the free spots one after another. Start with the player who played the action, then continue clockwise.

End of Round and Nugget Count

The round ends as soon as every Dwarf disc still in the mine is on the Mine Exit card or has been eliminated by Dragobert.

All players whose Dwarf disc is on the Mine Exit card count the gold nuggets shown on their Extraction cards. If a player has the Gold Bonus card, they add 3 gold nuggets to their total.

The dwarf with the most gold nuggets wins the round. They receive 3 Big Nuggets. The dwarf with the 2nd-best score receives 2 Big Nuggets, and the dwarf with the 3rd-best score receives 1 Big Nugget. Place the Big Nuggets earned on your Dwarf cards: they will be used at the time of the final scoring. Dwarves with no gold nuggets cannot take part in this race for Big Nuggets.

Tied nuggets: if 2 or more players have the same number of gold nuggets on their Extraction cards, their position on the Mine Exit card's ladder determines who wins Big Nuggets, and how many. The dwarf whose disc is placed highest on the Mine Exit card wins the tie.

Second Round

Take back any cards that were put in the box, then shuffle the Extraction cards and the Exit cards separately again to form 2 separate draw piles once more. Set up the Mine cards as at the start of the game and place your Dwarf discs back on the Cart card. This time, the player who won the 1st round starts.

Final Round

The 3rd round is also the last one: it's at the end of this 3rd round that the winner will be determined! Follow the same setup as the previous rounds. The player who won the 2nd round starts.

Final Scoring

All players who won Big Nuggets during the previous rounds have an advantage. Big Nuggets count the same as the gold nuggets shown on Extraction cards, and are added to the latter's total.

If a player is eliminated by Dragobert during the last round, they count only their Big Nuggets (earned during the previous rounds).

The player who has amassed the most gold nuggets (Extraction cards and Big Nuggets combined) wins the game!

If 2 or more players have the same number of gold nuggets (Extraction cards and Big Nuggets combined), their position on the Mine Exit card's ladder becomes the deciding factor. The dwarf whose disc is placed highest on the ladder wins.

"Double Draw" Variant for 2 Players

When playing a 2-player game, you can play with this variant.

Each player controls 2 dwarves, who play one right after the other, always in the same order. Then it's the other player's 2 dwarves' turn.

Each player places their 2 Dwarf cards in front of them, one next to the other, to remember which order they must play them in.

A player's 2 dwarves are on the same team (their gold nuggets are gathered into a shared pile), but:

  • if one of the team's 2 dwarves is eliminated by Dragobert, the remaining dwarf carries on alone for that round (the gold gathered so far stays in the hands of the remaining dwarf);
  • if one of the team's 2 dwarves reaches the Mine Exit, it takes all the gold nuggets (Extraction cards and Big Nuggets combined) found so far and places them on its Dwarf card. Dragobert can no longer reach this dwarf and its treasure.

The dwarf that remains in the mine now collects its gold nuggets on a new pile. When it reaches the Mine Exit, the nuggets from its pile will be placed on its own Dwarf card.

The round scoring rules do not change.

A player can win Big Nuggets more than once if both of their dwarves reach the Mine Exit and have gathered enough gold nuggets to earn Big Nuggets at the time of the count.

Tip: in this variant, be careful to choose the right moment for your 1st dwarf to leave the mine with the team's loot, so that your 2nd dwarf can keep collecting and reach a good score.
