Components and Setup

Components

  • 1 rulebook
  • 21 goods cards (4x each of berry, fish, jug, arrowhead, tooth, and 1x dog)
  • 15 hut cards
  • 1 wooden mammoth (Martin)

Setup

  1. Sort the cards into 2 piles: one pile for the goods cards and one pile for the hut cards. (Hut cards show the hut on the back.)
  2. Shuffle the hut cards and place them face down as the hut pile, within reach of all players. Give everyone, including yourself, 1 hut card now. Lay it in front of you with the side showing the goods face up (front side).
  3. Shuffle the goods cards. Then lay 9 goods cards in a circle in the middle, face down (meadow side up). Attention: with 2 or 3 players, you must remove 1 card of each good (berry, fish, jug, arrowhead, tooth), that is 5 cards, and put them back in the box.
  4. Lay the remaining goods cards face up (good side up) in the middle of the circle. This is the draw pile for the goods.
  5. Place Martin the mammoth next to a goods card of your choice.

Goal of the Game

You want to found a small settlement. To build a hut you always need 3 different goods (berry, fish, jug, arrowhead, tooth). The first of you to have built 3 huts wins the game.

Game Play

You play in turn, clockwise. In "Stone Age Junior - The Card Game" the youngest child begins. On your turn you always do the following:

Move Martin - Reveal a goods card - Build a hut

Then it is the turn of the next child to your left.

Move Martin

First, move Martin. Move him 1, 2, 3 or 4 goods cards onward clockwise.

Example: You move Martin 4 goods cards onward.

Reveal a goods card

Turn over the card next to which Martin stops.

Example: You reveal this card.

Compare the pictured good with your hut card. Is the good pictured on your hut card?

The good is pictured on your hut card. Great! Lay the goods card face up beside your hut. Now place the top goods card of the draw pile face down on the place that has become free next to Martin.

Did you already collect this good on an earlier turn? Then the good is already in front of you. You must turn the goods card back to its meadow side and the next player takes their turn.

The good is not pictured on your hut card. Turn the goods card back to its meadow side and the next player takes their turn.

Guff, the dog

"I am Guff, the dog. I can be a berry, fish, jug, arrowhead or tooth."

Guff has hidden on one of the goods cards. You can use this card as 1 good of your choice.

Build a hut + End of the game

At the end of your turn, compare your goods with those on your hut card. If you have all 3 pictured goods, or 2 goods and Guff, you can build your hut.

How do you build a hut? Turn your hut card over. Hooray, your hut is now built. You must put your goods cards, good side up, under the draw pile. Then take a new hut from the hut pile.

End of the game

When you have built the 3rd hut, you win the game immediately!

Expansion for "Stone Age Junior"

If you already own the "Stone Age Junior" board game, you can play the card game as an expansion to it. The normal rules apply with these additions:

Setup

Set up the board game as usual. Place Martin on the "trade space" ("Tauschfeld") of the game board. Shuffle the goods cards and place them face down as a pile next to the game board. (You do not need the hut cards.)

Move with Martin

The "dog space" and the "building site" do not count as a "goods space"!

If you move your piece to the space where Martin stands, you can either take/trade 1 good there as normal, or you immediately move on together with Martin to a "goods space" of your choice. Then you take the good from there and place it behind your settlement.

The building site

If you move your piece to the "building site" and cannot build a hut, take the top goods card from the pile. Lay this goods card face down in front of you. You can use it like the normal goods for building a hut.
