- 84 large Masterpiece cards
- 50 Inspiration cards
Setup
Form 2 or 3 teams of at least 2 players each. Shuffle the Masterpiece cards and the Inspiration cards separately, then place both decks within reach of everyone.
The team with the youngest player goes first.
If the number of players is fewer than 4, refer to the 2- and 3-Player Variant.
How to Play
On your turn...
Choose a player from your team to be the Muse. Feel free to change Muse from turn to turn! The rest of the players are the Artists.
- The team to your left draws 6 Masterpiece cards and 2 Inspiration cards.
- That team looks at these cards and secretly chooses one Masterpiece card and one Inspiration card from among them, then passes them to your team's Muse. The other 5 Masterpiece cards are set aside and the remaining Inspiration card is discarded.
- After secretly looking at their 2 cards, your Muse reveals the Inspiration card, then gives a clue to your team that will let you guess the Masterpiece card in step 5. The clue given must respect the instructions marked on the Inspiration card. (Example: an Inspiration card reading "Perform a little dance" instructs the Muse to act out the clue as a small dance.)
- The team to your left takes back the Masterpiece card, shuffles it face-down with the other 5 cards drawn earlier, then lays them face-up on the table. Take care that all the cards are laid out the same way round, so as not to accidentally reveal the Masterpiece card to be guessed.
- The members of your team must guess your Muse's Masterpiece card together. Your Muse may not speak to you or help you in any way other than by repeating the clue given in step 3.
- Your Muse tells you whether your answer is correct or not. If it is the correct answer, your team wins the Inspiration card and scores the points shown on it. If the answer is incorrect, the team to your left takes it and receives the points instead!
When your team's turn is over, discard all the other cards that were used. If the draw pile is empty, you may recreate one by shuffling together all the discarded cards.
The turn passes to the next team in clockwise order.
The first team to reach 12 points or more wins the game.
Resolving Conflicts
If more than one player finds the clue given in step 3 unfair, we recommend replaying the turn. As the Muse, try to give a clue that respects the spirit of the game!
2- and 3-Player Variant
When the number of players is fewer than 4, you can cooperate to acquire the Masterpieces together! The game plays out the same way, with a few variations:
- One player takes the role of the Muse, while all the other players are the Artists.
- The Muse draws 1 Masterpiece card and 2 Inspiration cards, then chooses one of the two Inspiration cards, discards the other, and gives their clue.
- The Muse draws 5 additional Masterpiece cards and shuffles them with the one drawn earlier, then lays them out face-up.
- The Artists try to guess the correct card, as in a normal game, and give one shared answer. If it is correct, they win the Inspiration card. If the answer turns out to be wrong, the card is set aside. You win if you manage to reach 12 points before setting aside a third Inspiration card.
Quick Game Variant
To save time, you can use this variant from the moment each team has finished its first turn.
At the start of each turn, all teams simultaneously choose the Masterpiece and Inspiration card to pass to the opposing team's Muse.
The Muses, once they have received their cards, may give the clue to their respective team whenever they wish. Everyone therefore plays simultaneously, as far as possible.
When a team reaches 8 points or more, the game must then proceed normally, with each team taking their turn in order.
