Setup
- Assemble the gameboard as explained in the attached instructions. Choose one of the two sides of the removable ring.
- Place the gameboard in the center of the table.
- Point the Selector at any pair of Shards on the gameboard (one of the Shards is on the Ring and the other on the circle surrounding the Warehouse) and drop all 46 Shards into the Warehouse.
- Shuffle the 24 Creation cards, then deal 5 Creation cards to each player (6 Creation cards in a 2-player game). Put the rest of the cards back in the box.
- Each player shuffles their cards and places them in their hand in a stack hidden from the other players. The card visible to the player at the top of their stack is defined as the first one. NOTE: Players cannot change the order of their stack during the game, except by performing an action.
- Take 1 red, 1 yellow, 1 green and 1 blue Shard from the Warehouse and randomly place one of them on each Market on the board (in any of the three spaces available on each Market).
- Each player takes an individual Workbench board and a player aid from the box.
- Create a reserve with the Lira, each player takes 4 Lira from the reserve.
- Determine randomly the first player and give them the First player marker.
- Place the 4 Category tiles (art, jewel, tableware, animal) near the game board.
- Shuffle the Advantage cards, then draw 4 Advantage cards and place each one under a Category tile. For your first game we recommend you to use these 4 Advantage cards as they allow an easier start to the game: Present (Card #1), Gift (Card #2), Free (Card #3), and Trader (Card #4). These can be referenced in the section highlighted below.
Game Round
During their turn a player must carry out the following phases in order:
- COLLECT
- NEGOTIATE
- COMPLETE one or more creations
At any time during their turn, as many times as they want, the player may also perform these actions:
- CHANGE THE ORDER OF THE CREATION CARDS
- ROTATE THE RING
- ACTIVATE ONE OR SEVERAL ADVANTAGEs
When the player has completed all of their actions, the player to their left will begin their turn. The rounds continue until a player has completed all of their Creation cards, triggering the end of the game.
Game Turn
1. Collect
The collect phase consists of 2 mandatory actions which must be completed in order:
- Rotate the Selector: The player must turn the Selector once clockwise, by positioning the pointers on the next pair of Shards (one of the Shards is on the Ring and the other on the circle surrounding the Warehouse).
- Take 2 Shards: The player then takes from the Warehouse the two Shards corresponding to the pair represented and places each Shard on an empty space on their Workbench. If one of the resources is no longer available, you can choose to take a resource of your choice, or none.
Important note on the Workbench usage: A Player cannot have more than 8 Shards on their Workbench at any time. If this happens, immediately return the excess Shards of your choice to the Warehouse.
Example — Collect: Anna rotates the selector clockwise. It points at the green and transparent Shards. She places those on her Workbench.
2. Negotiate
The player must take 1 of the following negotiate actions:
EXCHANGE: Put a Shard from your Workbench on 1 of the empty spaces of 1 of the Markets and take from the Warehouse the Shards represented on the Ring. Take only those connected to the Market. The transparent Shard cannot be obtained this way. Each space can only contain one Shard, so this action is not possible on a Market where all 3 spaces are full.
Example — Exchange: Timothy places his blue Shard on a market space. He collects 1 blue Shard and 1 red Shard, placing them on his Workbench.
BUY: Spend 2Ł to buy all the Shards available in 1 of the 4 markets on the board. The Lira tokens are returned to the reserve and the Shards placed on your Workbench.
Note: You must take all the shards.
Example — Buy: Timothy spends 2Ł to buy. He takes the red Shard and the green Shard.
SELL: From your Workbench, put as many Shards as you want in the Warehouse and take 1Ł from the reserve. You must return at least 1 Shard.
Example — Sell: Anna sells her 2 Shards, puts them back in the Warehouse and earns 1Ł.
3. Complete one or more Creations
Every time you complete a Creation card, you can only complete the first card in your hand. To complete a Creation card, place the Creation card face up to the left of your Workbench and return Shards on your Workbench to the Warehouse. The returned Shards must be the Shards on your Creation card. The transparent Shard is wild and can be used to replace any required color Shard.
After the player has returned the 4 Shards to the Warehouse, they take as many Lira as there are empty spaces on their Workbench from the reserve.
A player may repeat this process if they have the Shards required to fulfill their next Creation card. When two Creations are completed in a single turn, a bonus of 2Ł is awarded.
Example — Completing One or More Creations: Anna wants to Create a piece requiring 3 green Shards and 1 red Shard. She is missing 1 green Shard, but she can use 1 transparent Shard instead to complete this Creation. She puts the 4 Shards in the Warehouse and gains 7Ł (1Ł for each of the 7 empty spaces on her Workbench). Then she places her Creation card face up to the left side of her Workbench.
Any Time
At any time during a player's turn they may perform any of the following actions as many times as the action allows.
Change the Order of the Creation Cards
Spend 1Ł, take your first Creation card to place it in any position of your hand. A player can do this as many times as they want as long as they have enough Lira to pay the cost.
Important: You can freely look at your Creation cards at any time without changing their order.
Rotate the Ring
Spend 1Ł to rotate the Ring to the left (counter-clockwise). A player can do this as many times as they want as long as they have enough Lira to pay the cost.
Tip: this could be useful when you take Shards during the collect phase and when you perform an exchange action during the negotiate phase.
Activate an Advantage
These advantages modify the action. These advantages are additional actions.
At any time during their turn, a player may set aside (to the right of their Workbench) 1 or more of their completed Creations cards to activate the Advantage of a Category tile corresponding to 1 of those of the Creation (the category or categories of each Creation card are shown at the top right of the card).
Some Creation cards have more than one advantage icon and could activate the advantage of two different Category tiles. A player can only choose one of the two options.
Example — Activate an Advantage: Anna sets aside her Vase Work card (Tableware Category) and activates the Gift Advantage (card #2) associated with the Tableware Category tile during this game, in this case she can take a yellow Shard or a blue Shard from the Warehouse.
Card note: with a card that shows two advantage icons, a player can activate the Advantage of the Category Jewel or the Category Art.
Game End Trigger & Victory
The game end is triggered when a player has completed their 5 Creation cards (6 Creation cards for a 2-player game). The other players complete their final turn so that each player has played an equal number of turns during the game.
The player with the most Lira wins the game. If there is a tie, the player with the fewest completed Creation cards wins. If there is still a tie, victory is shared.
