The Constantly Changing Card Game

WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO PLAY – Visit www.morff.com to see a video of the Eureka! Ranch Games team explaining how to play – if you don't want to read these rules.

MORFF is designed for 4 players playing as teams of two. The objective is to be the first team to score 500 points.

Classic Game Play

  1. The first dealer for the game is the oldest player at the table (sorry kids), deal then moves to the left with each hand. The dealer shuffles the Morff and Trump Decks separately. The Morff cards are dealt to the players and the Trump Deck set face down in front of the dealer.
  2. The Trump Deck is set face down in front of the dealer who flips over the first trump card to indicate what trump is for the first hand.
  3. The dealer plays the first card. The other players must follow suit (color) if they have one. If they don't have one, they can either: a) Play the TRUMP suit or b) Throw off any card in their hand.
  4. If no trump was played, the highest card of the suit led wins the trick. If trump was played, the highest trump card wins the trick.
  5. The dealer then flips over the next card in the Trump Deck and places it face up on the table BESIDE the first trump card that was turned over. The color on this card is the trump for the next hand. When new trump cards are turned over the old ones are kept in view for all to see.
  6. The player who won the first trick now plays first for this second hand. This pattern will continue throughout the game.
  7. When a trump card tells you to change hands, then do it! Pass your entire hand to the left, right or across as the card instructs.

Scoring

Each trick you win earns your team 10 points. The team that wins the LAST TRICK earns 30 bonus points.

Expert Game Play Changes

  • Prior to the first hand each team "bids" how many tricks they'll take. If the team doesn't make it they lose the entire bid – for example, if you bid 5 and get 4 you lose 50 points. However, if you take the last trick you get 30 points (30-50 means you end up -20 for the hand).
  • When you move to a new trump card, the old card is turned over. This way it takes some serious memory and strategy to remember and anticipate which trump cards are left.
