- Purchase cost: the number of points tokens printed at the bottom of the card.
Setup
- Place the main board in the middle of the table.
- Shuffle the monster cards and place them face down on the monster deck space, so that only the monster and its size are visible.
- Shuffle the tourist cards and place them face down on the tourist deck space, so that only the tourist picture is visible.
- Place 3 upgrade cards on the appropriate spaces, so that the purchase cost at the bottom of each card is visible.
- Place the points tokens next to the board, where every player has free access to them.
- Take 5 cards from the top of the monster deck and place them in the designated place, so that only the monster and its size are visible. This creates the monster track.
- Take 3 cards from the top of the tourist deck and place them in the designated place, so that the requirements side of each tourist is visible.
- Each player receives a scoring token with a value of 5.
- Each player places a park board in front of them.
The person who proposed playing Monster Park becomes the starting player and receives the starting monster token.
Printed-layout note: the track banners for the first four monster positions read 0, 1, 2 and 3 from left to right, matching the prices stated in the text. The fifth position carries no printed cost marker, and the rulebook does not state its price.
The Monster Park
Each player's park is divided into 3 areas:
- Sky (nieba), for air monsters
- Land (ziemi), for land monsters
- Water (wody), for water monsters
Each area has room for 5 cards (monsters and/or upgrades). Monster Park is a special place that follows its own rules. When inviting monsters during the game, you must follow these rules:
- Each monster may only live in the area that suits it (matching its type). Upgrades may be placed in any of the areas.
- Each subsequent monster in a given area must be the same size as or larger than the previous monster or upgrade. This rule does not apply to upgrade cards.
- Each subsequent monster or upgrade must be placed to the right of the last card in that area.
Example (Stasiek): Stasiek invites a large water monster (size 4). His water area already contains water monsters, so he must place the card to the right of the cards in the water area. Looking at the sky of Stasiek's park: the first monster there is huge (size 5), but because he added balloons (size 2) to this area, the next card in it may have a size from 2 to 5.
Playing the Game
On your turn, you must perform one of the following three actions. After that, check whether any tourist wants to visit your park (see Tourists).
Action 1: Take a Token
Take one points token with a value of 1 from the bank.
Action 2: Buy an Upgrade
Buy one of the upgrades by paying the tokens shown on it, then place it in any area of your park:
- Souvenirs (pamiątki): 3 tokens
- Balloons (balony): 2 tokens
- Bench (ławeczka): 1 token
When you place an upgrade card, turn it over to its side without the price. Upgrades give no points at final scoring.
Action 3: Invite a Monster
If possible, invite a monster by buying one of the cards on the monster track. Pay the number of points tokens required (1, 2 or 3), or invite a monster from the position with a value of 0 for free. You may only invite a monster that does not break the rules of Monster Park.
When you place a monster card, turn it so that its points value (at the bottom of the card) and its character (friendly or nasty) are visible.
Example (Stasiek): Stasiek wants to see only large monsters in his sky. He pays 3 tokens and takes a monster card of size 4. He places it in the sky area of his park, right next to the balloons (size 2).
Tourists
After performing one of the three actions, the active player checks whether any tourist wants to visit their park. If you meet the requirements of any tourist, you may invite that tourist to your park (place their card in front of you) and receive the reward printed on the card, in points tokens. During your turn you may invite all three tourists on the track. There is no limit on the number of tourist cards you may hold.
Example (Ola): Ola's Monster Park is very popular. When this giant water monster appeared in it, tourists came running at once. Ola meets the requirements of two tourists. She has 4 monsters in her water area, plus 2 friendly and 2 nasty monsters. Ola places both tourist cards in front of her and takes tokens with a total value of 5 points (3 points for the first tourist, 2 for the second).
Preparing the Board for the Next Player
When the active player has checked the tourists, prepare the main board for the next player:
- Refill the tourist spaces: add a new tourist to each empty space showing a tourist picture.
- Monster track: move the monster from the position with a cost of 0 to the discard area. Move the remaining monster cards as far left as possible. Fill the empty positions with cards from the monster deck. If the monster deck runs out of cards, gather the cards from the discard area, shuffle them and use them as a new monster deck.
Then the next player takes their turn, going clockwise, performing one of the three actions and checking the tourists in the same way.
End of the Game
The game ends when one of the players completely fills their park, that is, each of the 3 areas contains 5 cards of monsters and/or upgrades. Finish the current round, so that the turn returns to the starting player. The starting player does not take a move in this final round. Then the game ends.
Scoring and Winner
Add up the values on your scoring tokens and the values at the bottom of the monster cards in your park. Upgrade cards are not counted.
The player with the most victory points wins and receives the title of Monster Park Master.
In the event of a tie, the player with more monsters in their park wins. If the players are still tied, they share the victory.
