Goal of the Game
2-3 players.
Be the first player to collect three complete sets of property cards in different colors, or two complete sets in a three-player game. Play event cards to demand rent, swap cards, and buy properties from other players. Remember to bank plenty of money — and remember that other players will steal from you too!
Setup
Shuffle all property, event, and money cards into one stack and place it face down in the middle of the table. Leave room next to it for a discard pile. Each player takes four cards — these are your starting hand. The youngest player goes first.
Table Layout
- Draw pile — the shuffled stack of property, event, and money cards, placed face down in the middle.
- Discard pile — play your event cards face up here after using them.
- Bank pile — your personal stack of money cards and any event cards you have used as money.
- Property cards — lay these face up in front of you, grouped into sets.
How to Play
- At the start of every turn, take two cards from the draw pile.
- You must play at least one card on your turn, but no more than three. You may play property, event, or money cards in any order.
- Property card: Place a property card from your hand into your property area on the table.
- Event card: Play an event card from your hand onto the discard pile and carry out its action.
- Money card: Place a money card from your hand into your bank (money pile). You may also play an event card as money instead, but then its action no longer applies. The corner of the card shows its money value.
- At the end of your turn you may have at most five cards in hand. If you have no cards left, take four new ones at the start of your next turn.
Important Rules
- You may only pay with cards that are already on the table — never with cards from your hand.
- Once a card is on the table, it can never go back to a player's hand. Even when players hand cards to each other, those cards stay on the table.
- There is no change given. Example: if you owe 2M in rent and pay with a 5M card, you lose the extra 3M! Tough luck!
- If you pay another player with a property card, it goes onto that player's property pile (not into their hand or their bank).
- If another player demands payment from you but you have neither money nor properties on the table, you pay nothing.
- If you run out of cards to draw, shuffle the discard pile to make a new draw pile.
