Aim of the Game
2 players: The first to get two of your three heroes to their coloured area at the secret temple in the centre of the board wins the game.
3-4 players: The first to get one of your three heroes to their coloured area at the secret temple in the centre of the board wins the game.
Setting Up the Game
Before you start playing, build the game using the LEGO building instructions provided in the set. Building the game teaches you more about the pieces and how you can use them. This makes it easier to rebuild or change the rules of your game later on.
Build the LEGO Dice using the coloured sides shown in the manual. Four sides are numbered, showing three, four, five and six pips; one side is plain grey (the wall side); and one side is black (the Minotaur side). The set includes a tool to help take tiles off the LEGO Dice.
Before each new game, reset the game board to match the picture in the manual, or the image on the last page of the building instructions. Use the stencil provided to make this quick and easy.
Starting with the youngest player, each player selects a coloured team of three heroes.
Playing the Game
The youngest player starts first. Play then continues clockwise.
Each turn a player rolls the LEGO Dice and does one of the following:
Sides with Numbers
Move your hero the number of spaces matching the number rolled on the LEGO Dice. Heroes cannot stand on top of other heroes or climb over them. Only one hero can be moved per turn. If you are leaving the starting block the hero starts on any adjacent green space.
Wall
Move one grey blocking wall from the edge of the game board and place it in the labyrinth OR move a blocking wall already in the labyrinth to a different position. You decide where to place the blocking wall. Heroes and the Minotaur cannot jump over blocking walls.
Players are NOT allowed to block all the routes from the starting block of a player to the secret temple in the centre.
Minotaur
Move the Minotaur eight spaces. The Minotaur starts its movement on any green space adjacent to the secret temple OR from its current location if it did not start from the secret temple.
If the Minotaur runs into a hero while moving its eight spaces, the hero is returned to its starting block, and the Minotaur returns to the secret temple in the centre of the board.
Only the coloured starting blocks and the coloured area in the centre of the board are safe from the Minotaur.
Moving Pieces
One green dot = 1 space. Example: the player moves three spaces.
Heroes and the Minotaur cannot be moved diagonally.
Winning the Game
2 players: The first player to get two of their three heroes to his or her coloured area at the secret temple in the centre of the board wins the game.
3-4 players: The first player to get one of their three heroes to his or her coloured area at the secret temple in the centre of the board wins the game.
Players do not need to roll the exact number of spaces remaining to land their hero on his or her coloured area, as long as the hero lands on the coloured area while moving. Players are allowed to move through another player's coloured area.
Component note, "The LEGO tilt": the best way to pick up your LEGO pieces is by tilting them before you pick them up.
Change Your Game – Your Rules
The LEGO Dice gives you the freedom to change the game and make it your own. You can change the playing area, the pieces and even the rules. Every little change makes it more and more YOUR game.
The secret to changing a game is to change only one thing at a time. That way, you can see if the change makes the game more fun. If it does, keep it and then try another.
Changing a game is always more fun when done together. That way everyone knows the rules and knows what is being changed. Remember to make sure everyone playing is aware of any new rules BEFORE you start playing.
Now that you know how to play the game using our rules, try one of the following suggestions to change the game, and then try to make one of your own.
-
Build different labyrinths: Now you know how to build the labyrinth our way, see what happens if you build it a different way.
-
Harder game: Make it even harder to win. The first player to get ALL THREE heroes to the secret temple wins the game.
-
Hedge jumping: Enables heroes to jump over hedges by replacing the number 3 tile on the LEGO Dice with a green jump tile. Players have two options when rolling green:
a) Move your hero three spaces to jump over a hedge. Hedges count as one space and players cannot end their turns with their hero on top of a hedge. Players cannot jump walls when rolling green, OR
b) Move your hero three spaces as you would normally do when rolling a three.
-
Mighty Minotaurus: Change how the Minotaur moves! What if he's really powerful and can move 12 spaces! OR maybe he can only move five spaces. Can the Minotaur jump over hedges too? It's up to you to decide.
Invent and Share Your Own Rules
Challenge yourself and see what new rules you can create. If they work, upload your "house rules" of the game to games.LEGO.co.uk and share it with others. Or check out what others have created and try playing the game using their house rules.
