How To Play

Step 1: Distribute black cards evenly to all players. Select NSFW and/or drinking rules for that round. Players take turns flipping over their top card and calling out the correct response (see the Three Rules below).

Step 2: Get it right? The card stays on the table. The next player goes.

Mess up or take too long? All other players compete to slap your card.

Step 3: The first to slap the card after a mistake gives two cards from their hand to any other player. The player that messed up picks up the rest.

First player with no cards wins.

Three Rules

Black Text? Say the background color. Example card: the word "Orange" on a green card. Correct response: "GREEN".

Colored Text? Say the text color. Example card: the word "Yellow" on a red card. Correct response: "RED".

Swear word? Say the swear word. Example card: "SHIT". Correct response: "SHIT".

One Exception

You can never drop the F-BOMB. Instead, these cards always follow the first two rules.

  • Example card: "FUCK" on an orange card. Correct response: "ORANGE".
  • Example card: "FUCK" (captioned "GREEN" on the page). Correct response: "GREEN".

Note: the captured page shows the Three Rules and One Exception examples as card images with captions. Only the captions and the printed card text are transcribed here.

Optional Rules

Once you have the main rules down, throw in optional NSFW and/or drinking rules to increase the challenge. At the start of each round, select the optional rules you would like to add and place those rule cards face up on the table so everyone can see them. These rules then apply for the remainder of the round (see the FAQ).

NSFW Rules

Go ahead. Click your poison.

Have Another One. If you slap your hand on a card after a correct response (thinking it was a mistake), you now have to pick up all the cards.

You're My Bitch. If you flip over a BITCH card and simultaneously point at another player while saying "bitch", that player must pick up all the cards. There is no penalty if you answer correctly but forget to point.

Monkey Slapper. If you slap your hand on a card too quickly after it has been played (without allowing enough time for a response), you're a monkey slapper and must pick up all the cards.

Crossing Swords. Crossing swords occurs when two COCK cards are played on top of each other. The first player to shout "crossed swords" can take three cards from their hand and give them to anyone they choose.

Make It Rain. If one player is unusually bad and ends up with WAY more cards than anyone else, they can invoke this rule to get back into the game. Once announced, the player with the fat stack can take half of their hand and literally make it rain on their opponents, but only if they are the first to slap another player's mistake.

Choking On Cock. If you hesitate, stutter, or say an incorrect response on a COCK card, you are said to be choking on cock. In addition to having to pick up all the cards, you must take one card from each player.

Sudden Death. Implement this rule to end the game quickly. If you make a mistake, you're out. Cards stay on the table. Last man standing wins.

Reverse Cowgirl. A mashup of Rule #1 and Rule #3 that makes the game significantly more difficult. For swear words written in black text, you now must say the background color of the card. For swear words written in colored text, you continue to say the swear word as before.

Go Fuck Yourself. If your last card is a FUCK card, you must in this instance actually say the word "fuck". Failure to do so results in having to pick up all the cards and take one card from each player.

Check Yo'self. If an incorrect response is given (but is not immediately noticed by the group) and the next player takes their turn, that player must then pick up all the cards if the original mistake is subsequently noticed.

Clam Jammed. You get clam jammed when two PUSSY cards are played one on top of the other. The first person to shout "clam jammed" can give three cards from their hand to the player that laid the second PUSSY card.

Blowing It. If you make a mistake on your very last card, this is called blowing it. You must pick up all the cards and take one from each player.

Spit It Out. Applies to any player that repeatedly uses the same body gesture while coming up with their response. Often seen as a pointing motion, head movement or deep breath. The offender must take back the played card and loses their turn.

Involuntary Stupidity. If you make a mistake and immediately acknowledge your own error (for example, by slapping your own card or making a verbal exclamation), you must pick up all the cards and take one card from each player.

Challenge. A challenge can be called when you are required to pick up cards (or take cards from another player). The player that slapped your mistake (or is giving you cards) must defend the challenge. Once called, the two of you face off in a one-card flip-off. The first to say the correct answer wins and the loser must take the cards.

Drinking Rules

Still too easy? Try this.

The drinking rules are gated behind an age confirmation on the publisher's site ("You must be of legal drinking age to enter"). The individual drinking rule cards were not present in the captured pages, so they are not transcribed here.

FAQ

What exactly is a mindjob?

According to Urban Dictionary a mindjob is defined as: The act of having your mind blown. It's something that just makes you sit back and say "daammn" or "dayum".

How long is "too long" to give an answer?

No more than a fraction of a second. After a couple turns the length of time will become self-evident. If nobody is making mistakes you are either playing too slowly (not slapping mistakes soon enough) or you are ready to increase the difficulty by adding the optional NSFW and/or drinking rules.

How do we use the NSFW and drinking rules?

Once you get the hang of the main rules, you can increase the level of difficulty by adding any of the optional NSFW or drinking rules. At the start of each round, select the optional rules that you would like to add and place those rule cards face up on the table so everyone can see them. These rules will then apply for the remainder of the round.

Do you ship outside of the US?

MINDJOB is sold on Amazon in the US, Canada, Mexico, Germany, France and the UK with international shipping available for most locations.

Can I carry your game in my retail store?

Please send an email to the publisher's contact address for further info.

How many people can play?

The game works best with 3-6 players but anywhere from 2-8 players is possible. For larger groups we recommend adding a second deck.

Haven't I seen this before?

There's a pretty good chance you've seen this as a brain training exercise or in a psych textbook. The effect that makes this game so difficult is taught in almost every introductory class on psychology.

Doesn't it get repetitive and boring?

Fair question. The game was playtested for countless hours during development and the creators are still embarrassingly bad at it. Mix in a few drinks and the optional rules and you'd swear they were playing for the first time. For a real mindfuck, we recommend playing it Reverse Cowgirl style or mixing two different language versions together.

Does it come in other languages?

MINDJOB is available in English (American and British), Mexican Spanish, German and European French (French Canadian version coming soon!). If you want to see it in your native language, please send the publisher your card ideas.

Is there a Canadian edition?

What the puck? Who's the hoser that asked that!? No. Go back to playing hockey and eating poutine.

However, if you insist on sending us your card ideas we will readily accept your inevitable apology.

We suck and our game won't end. Now what?

We created the "Sudden Death Elimination Rule" for this exact situation.

Introduce this rule and we promise your game will wrap up in no time.
