Objective
Race against Mario, Luigi, Peach and the other characters, and be the first to cross the finish line.
Components
The booklet lists the following contents (page 2):
- 6 character pawns with 6 plastic bases: Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Luigi and Mario.
- 1 game board with a race track.
- 1 card dispenser, with 112 cards.
- Attack cards, shown on the card sheet as 5 different types with 5, 4, 3, 3 and 3 cards (left to right).
- Defence cards, shown as 5 different types with 14, 6, 6, 6 and 6 cards (left to right).
- Protection cards, shown as 4 different types with 1 card each.
- Kilometre cards, shown as 5 values with 10, 10, 10, 12 and 4 cards (for 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200 km, left to right).
- 1 Help Card (Carta de Ayuda), which contains a summary of all Attack, Defence and Protection cards.
Note: the card-face names are not printed on the card sheet, so the counts above are listed in the order printed. The Attack, Defence, Protection and Kilometre counts printed on the sheet add up to 106, while the sheet states 112 cards for the dispenser; the printed figures are transcribed as they appear, without correction.
Play Area
Shared play area layout (page 3):
- Speed Pile (Pila de Velocidad): this is where your opponents place their Speed Limit Attack cards. Play one of your End of Speed Limit Defence cards on top of the Speed Limit Attack card.
- Battle Pile (Pila de Batalla): this is where your opponents place their Attack cards. You must place the matching Defence card on top of the Attack card in order to resume the race.
- Kilometre Piles (Pilas de Kilómetros): make several piles with your Kilometre cards according to the number of kilometres shown on them. Move your pawn along the track to help you count the kilometres you have travelled. 4-5. Protection Cards (Cartas de Protección): place the Protection cards you have played side by side, so that the other players can see which attacks you are protected against. Place a Protection card horizontally if you have played it as a GOLPE DE MAESTRO (4) (see page 9).
Important: keep your Speed Limit Attack card and your End of Speed Limit Defence card separate from your Battle Pile.
Note: if you play in teams, sit so that all team members can reach the shared Play Area.
Setup
- Place the track in the middle of the table and place the card dispenser next to it.
- Choose a character, insert its pawn into a plastic base, and place it on the START space.
- Give one Help Card to each player.
- Shuffle the cards and deal 6 cards face down to each player.
- Place the remaining cards face down in the dispenser.
- Each player looks at their own cards, making sure the other players cannot see them.
Let the race begin!
Starting Play
The youngest player starts, and play then continues to the left.
Your Turn
On your turn, draw a card from the dispenser.
To start the race, you must have a Green Light (Semáforo verde) Defence card. If you have one, place it in front of you. Otherwise, discard one of your cards face up on the dispenser.
After placing the Green Light Defence card in your Play Area, on your next turn you have several options:
- If you have a Kilometre card, place it and advance in the race.
- If you have an Attack card, you may place it in the Play Area of one of your opponents to stop or slow down their race. Note: you may attack an opponent even if you have been attacked yourself. Note: if you decide to attack, you may not play 2 Attack cards in the same turn. The only exception is the Speed Limit (Límite de velocidad) Attack card, which may be played together with another Attack card.
- If you were attacked in the previous turn, you may counter the attack by placing the matching Defence card on top of it.
- If you have a Protection card, place it in front of you. It makes you immune to that attack until the end of the game. Note: placing a Protection card cancels all matching attacks currently in progress, and gives you the right to take another turn. Draw another card and play again. Example: if you place a Puncture-Proof Tyre (Neumático antipinchazos) Protection card in your Play Area after being immobilised by a Flat Tire (Pinchazo) Attack card, the current Flat Tire attack is cancelled. Because you have just played a Protection card, it is your turn again.
- If you cannot play any card, place one of your cards on the discard pile of the dispenser.
You must have 6 cards in your hand. Your turn then ends, and play passes to the player on your left.
The game continues until one player reaches exactly 1,000 km with the Kilometre cards in front of them, or until no cards remain in the dispenser.
Note: if nobody reaches 1,000 km, the player who comes closest to that distance without exceeding it wins.
Kilometre Cards
Play Kilometre cards by advancing your pawn the number of spaces shown on the board:
- 25 km = 1 space
- 50 km = 2 spaces
- 75 km = 3 spaces
- 100 km = 4 spaces
- 200 km = 8 spaces
Note: each player may play a maximum of 2 cards of 200 km.
Attack and Defence Cards
The other players will do everything they can to stop you or slow you down. With the 5 types of Attack cards, they can overtake you and take the lead. Prevent this by playing the matching Defence cards.
Each Attack card stops the player it is played against from playing Kilometre cards until that player plays the matching Defence card:
- Red Light (Semáforo rojo): prevents your opponents from playing a Kilometre card until they play a Green Light (Semáforo verde) Defence card.
- Speed Limit (Límite de velocidad): prevents your opponents from playing Kilometre cards above 50 km. This card is cancelled by the Defence card End of Speed Limit (Fin del límite de velocidad).
- Out of Gas (Sin gasolina): prevents your opponents from playing a Kilometre card until they play a Gasoline (Gasolina) Defence card.
- Flat Tire (Pinchazo): prevents your opponents from playing a Kilometre card until they play a Spare Tire (Rueda de recambio) Defence card.
- Accident (Accidente): prevents your opponents from playing a Kilometre card until they play a Repairs (Reparación) Defence card.
The Defence cards are therefore: Green Light (Semáforo verde), End of Speed Limit (Fin del límite de velocidad), Gasoline (Gasolina), Spare Tire (Rueda de recambio) and Repairs (Reparación).
Protection Cards
Play Protection cards to become immune to the matching attacks until the end of the game.
- Right of Way (Derecho de paso): when you play this Protection card, your opponents cannot attack you with a Red Light (Semáforo rojo) or a Speed Limit (Límite de velocidad) Attack card.
- Gasoline Tanker (Cisterna de gasolina): when you play this Protection card, your opponents cannot attack you with an Out of Gas (Sin gasolina) Attack card.
- Puncture-Proof Tyre (Neumático antipinchazos): when you play this Protection card, your opponents cannot attack you with a Flat Tire (Pinchazo) Attack card.
- Ace Driver (As del volante): when you play this Protection card, your opponents cannot attack you with an Accident (Accidente) Attack card.
Master Stroke (Golpe maestro)
If you immediately counter an opponent's Attack card with the matching Protection card (even when it is not your turn), shout "GOLPE MAESTRO!" (Master Stroke).
- Place the cancelled Attack card on the discard pile.
- Draw a card from the dispenser to bring your hand back to 6 cards, and play again immediately.
- If there are other players between the attacker and you, they lose their turn.
