Components
- 1 game board
- 735 word tokens (ordpolletter)
- 35 thief tokens (tjuvpolletter)
- 35 Robin Hood tokens (Robin Hood-polletter)
- 1 cloth bag for the tokens
- 1 plastic bag for used word tokens
- 8 horns (tutor)
- 1 hourglass (30 seconds)
Players
- 4 to 8 players, divided into teams of at least two players each.
Summary
Divide into teams with at least two players in each team. A team member takes a token from the bag and describes what is written on it, but using other words! Sometimes the opposing teams sound their horns to stress you. Every now and then a thief appears and steals your word tokens right in front of your eyes. The team that first fills its row with word tokens wins.
Setup
- The first time you play, press the tokens out of the sheets and put them in the cloth bag.
- Divide into teams with at least two people in each team.
- Each team chooses a row on the game board.
- Hand out the horns, one to each person.
- Get out the hourglass.
How to Play
- Decide which team starts.
- Turn the hourglass. The team now has 30 seconds to get together as many word tokens as possible.
- One member of the team takes the cloth bag with the word tokens. That person must now describe what is written on the tokens, but using other words. Example: Big Ben. Clue, for example: Big clock in London. When the teammates have guessed correctly, the token is placed in the team's row on the game board. Within the time limit (maximum 30 seconds) you may guess and give clues until you succeed.
- You must guess correctly and place the token in your row before a new token may be taken from the cloth bag.
- Continue to take up word tokens and guess until time runs out.
- If time runs out without you having found the right answer, the token is put back into the cloth bag. (See also the section Stressing with the Horns.)
- Then the turn passes clockwise to the next team.
FORBIDDEN TO SAY ANY OF THE WORDS OR PART OF THE WORDS AS A CLUE. If the team whose turn it is has placed a token in its row, and the opponents then see that the team used any of the words, or any part of the words on the token, as a clue, they may protest. They do so by sounding their horns. The first team to protest wins the token for its own row.
Thieves Steal Tokens From You
If you draw a thief token from the bag, you may steal a token from one of the opposing teams' rows and place it in your own row. When your 30 seconds have run out, set the thief token aside. If no opponent has any tokens on the game board, you cannot steal any token.
Robin Hood Raises the Tension
If you draw a Robin Hood token from the bag, the team that is leading must give two tokens to the team that is last. If several teams have the same number of tokens, the team that drew the token chooses which team or teams are affected. The Robin Hood token is always used after the time in the hourglass has run out, before the turn passes to the next team. Then set the token aside.
Stressing with the Horns
If you want the game to include a bit more schadenfreude, choose to play by Option 2.
Option 1
If you do not understand which word is being explained, the opponents, if they believe they know the answer, sound their horns to stress you. If time runs out before you have worked out the right answer, the opposing team that sounded its horns first gets to answer. If it can give the answer, it wins the token. If it cannot give the answer, you get the token. In addition, that team must forfeit one of its earned tokens to your team (if it has any).
Option 2
If you do not understand which word is being explained, the opponents, if they believe they know the answer, sound their horns to stress you. You may then either keep trying to work out the answer or point to a player who has sounded a horn. If the person pointed to can say the answer directly, the team wins the token. If the person pointed to cannot give the answer, or hesitates, you get the token. In addition, the pointed-to team must forfeit one of its earned tokens to your team (if it has any). Your teammate quickly takes a new token, and play continues until the sand in the hourglass has run out.
Who Wins?
The team that first fills its row with word tokens wins. Even if a team still has its turn left in the round, the game ends as soon as one team has filled its row.
End of Round
Place used word tokens in the enclosed plastic bag. This way, the same token takes longer to come up again.
