Object of the Game
Build as fast as you can the trickiest maze you can imagine then swap mazes with your opponent and start to race. Steering a ball, the player/team who completes the maze first wins the round. Win 2 out of 3 races to be victorious!
Set Up
Each player/team gets one Maze Board (divided into four quadrants), 76 Maze Walls of the same color, one wooden Spacer, one green Start piece and one red End piece. The sand timer and the wooden balls are set aside.
Note: When you first un-wrap the game, carefully dislodge the maze walls from the two magnetic mats.
How to Play
Players come to an agreement as to which of the four quadrants both mazes must start and end in.
Each player/team places their green Start piece anywhere they choose within the Start quadrant on the board and place their red End piece anywhere on the End quadrant. Players may move these pieces within the quadrant as they build their maze.
On the count of three, each player/team starts building their maze. The maze must have at least one path that allows the ball to roll freely from the green Start piece to the red End piece. Players can use the enclosed spacer to ensure there is enough space for the ball to roll freely. Once a player/team is satisfied with their maze, they shout "Ready to Race!" and turn over the sand timer. The other player/team has one minute to complete their maze. The player/team that has finished their maze may not glance at their opponent's maze or interfere in any way with their maze construction.
Maze Racing
2 Players Maze Racing
When the minute has elapsed, the two players exchange their boards; then, without delay they each place a ball at the green starting point and on the count of three, race to the red point and back to the green point by tilting the board. The player that completed the way forth and back the fastest is the winner of the round.
Team Maze Racing
When playing in teams of 2 players per team, once the race starts, each member of the team gets to steer the ball in one direction. When the first player has reached the red End point, they quickly pass the board to their teammate who must now steer the ball back to the starting green point.
Faulty Maze
If a maze is impossible to complete for whatever reason, the player/team responsible for its design loses the round.
Victory
Once a round is finished the players/teams takes back their board and decide on new start and end points and begin a new round as per the game rules.
The player/team that wins 2 of 3 rounds is declared victorious.
Minimum Fixed Time Maze Building
Players may decide to allocate a minimum fixed time to construct the mazes (for example, 7 minutes). In this case, the first player to finish their maze declares "Ready to Race!" only once the minimum time has elapsed. They then turn over the sand timer and the other player has 1 minute to finish their maze.
Advanced Play
For an advanced play mode, download the document titled advanced_mazes.pdf. Once printed, the document should be cut into cards. At the beginning of each round, a shape card is drawn; players/teams use their maze walls to replicate the shape shown on their maze board. Once this initial set up is finished, the round starts according to the game rules however players cannot modify the pre-determined shape on their board as they build their maze.
