Setup
Components: A. 150 double-sided cards (70 x Level 1, 50 x Level 2, 30 x Level 3); B. 1 score track; C. 8 score markers; D. 8 Match chips; E. 1 pad with several columns.
- Sort the cards by their three levels and shuffle the stacks separately from each other (A). Decide on the light or dark side and place the three stacks in the middle of the table with the chosen side face down.
- Place the score track (B) within easy reach in the middle of the table.
- Each player takes 1 score marker (C) and places it next to the 0 of the score track.
- Each player takes 1 Match chip (D).
- Each sheet of the pad shows three columns. Each of you needs one such column for noting your answers. Tear off enough sheets along the dashed lines so that everyone has 1 column (E).
Now you each just need a pen and you can begin!
Object of the Game
Answer wacky questions and collect points by giving the same answer as at least one other person or by betting correctly with your Match chip. You play until one person has reached 13 points.
Gameplay
The person who most recently ate a toast begins. They read out the questions of the first round, beginning with Level 1: turn over the top card and read it aloud. Now all of you try to answer the question so that you get a match. To do so, secretly write down an answer that you believe at least one other person will also write down.
Important: Only discuss the question once all guessers have noted an answer!
What is a Match?
You have a match if you have written down the same answer as at least one other person. There can also be several different matches in a round. For example, for the question "We asked 100 headphones: How many songs do you make audible in an hour?", if two people noted "10" and three people noted "20", then all five have a match.
Agree before the game how perfect your matches must be. You decide together whether an answer is valid or not. This may be the case, for example, if your answers are "mushroom" and "champignon". The more closely answers must agree, the harder the game becomes.
When everyone is finished, read out your answers in turn. Is there one or more matches? Then these people receive points according to the respective level.
[Example cards: one Level 1, one Level 2 and one Level 3 card.]
- LEVEL 1: 1 POINT
- LEVEL 2: 2 POINTS
- LEVEL 3: 3 POINTS
Whoever read the first question now reads the next question – this time Level 2! Only those who just had a match may write down their answer again. All those who had no match bet instead.
In Level 3, again only those who had a match in Level 2 may guess. All the others bet. As soon as one or more people reach 13 points, the game ends immediately.
End of the Round
A round is over when:
- there was not a single match in a level
- or you have played a "Level 3" question.
Begin a new round; everyone guesses again! The next person clockwise now reads out the questions, beginning with Level 1, etc.
Betting
Everyone without a match in a level bets afterwards. Before the answers are revealed, those who are betting each place their Match chip with the appropriate side up, betting on whether the remaining guessers will manage a match this time (check mark side) or not (cross side).
For a correct bet you always get 1 point.
In addition, you make a tally mark on your betting list. This is decisive if there is a tie at the end of the game.
[Example sheet: a player's column with name "Nadine", two tally marks and answers noted.]
Example "Level 2" (7 players)
Ella, the starting player, reads out a "Level 2" question: "We asked 100 pizzas: On which topping would you rather burn up in the oven out of shame?" Everyone who had a match in Level 1 now secretly writes down their answer. Nadine had no match in Level 1, so she bets. She decides to turn her Match chip to the "MATCH" side. Now everyone says their answers. Jenny and Steve wrote "Pineapple", Brian and Jessica "Fries". Rachel and Ella are left alone with their answers "Tuna" and "Champignons". Except for Ella and Rachel, all guessers have a match and each receives 2 points for it. Nadine was right with her bet and gets 1 point. Everyone except Rachel and Ella move forward on the score track accordingly.
In Level 3, Rachel, Ella and Nadine will now bet; all the others guess again.
End of the Game
Whoever first reaches 13 or more points wins the game. If several people achieve this at the same time, the one among them with the most correct bets wins.
