How Mosquito Plays
Mosquito is an immersive story-based crime game. To pull off this daring treasure hunt, a group of 1 to 6 players works together to make decisions, tackle puzzles, and gather crucial evidence.
Mosquito offers the ultimate challenge for hobby game and Escape Room fans. Immerse yourself in the thrilling action of a high-stakes treasure hunt from the comfort of your home. To succeed in the game, you'll rely not just on the clues and documents provided in the game but also harness the power of the internet. Google Maps, online research, and authentically designed websites are all integral parts of the game.
Every decision you make affects how the story develops.
Hints and Help
Don't worry if you reach a point where you aren't sure what to do next.
Take a closer look at the images on the fronts of the cards and envelopes you have revealed. They will help you solve the puzzles, make important decisions, and uncover new locations.
Then check whether you have found a complete phone number with a phone symbol next to it. You should "call" this number using the website.
If that hasn't helped, you can find some additional help on the publisher's website for each of the envelopes and cards. Simply click on the tab for the card or envelope you would like some help with. For the cards, there are two hints and then a solution.
Further down the help page, you can also find general hints concerning important aspects of the game, such as choosing the members of your crew and making key decisions about the heist.
If you need help with a website you found during the game, a help section is available on the same page.
Note: the specific hints, solutions and code answers for each card and envelope are intentionally left out of this transcription.
Entering Codes
Have you solved a puzzle, discovered a code or want to check a password? The publisher's website has a code-entry page for this.
Note: the code-entry form's questions, answer fields and outcome text reveal solutions to the case and are intentionally left out of this transcription.
Saving Your Game
If you'd like to take a break at any point, you can stop playing and save your game. We recommend taking a break after 2 hours. If you prefer, you can, of course, play through the game without taking a break. To save your game, put the cards in stacks as described below and keep them together with a rubber band.
- Stack 1: all the cards that have already been discarded. You no longer need these cards. If you have already solved the murder case and dealt with Card 49, also put all the cards that you should have discarded after solving the case into this stack.
- Stack 2: all the locations that are currently active and for which you have not yet made a decision. Use the notes sheet to make note of which locations are currently active.
- Stack 3: all the cards that you have already drawn and read through. You can look through this stack again when you restart the game to refresh your memory.
Put all the opened envelopes back in the box. By sorting the cards and envelopes in this way, together with your notes on the detective board, you can jump back into the investigation anytime.
Summary
- Stack 1: all discarded cards.
- Stack 2: draw stack and locations where you have not yet made a decision (note locations on the Detective Board).
- Stack 3: all cards already drawn and read.
Return all the other components to the box.
Resuming Your Game
- All Stack 1 cards: leave in the box.
- Do not look at Stack 2. Place it as the draw pile.
- Draw all the locations from Stack 2 that you have noted, and place them on the Detective Board.
- You can look at Stack 3 and all opened envelopes to refresh your memory.
Resetting the Game
You can reset the game completely so you can play it again another time. To do so, simply reseal the envelopes and sort the cards back into the stack in ascending numerical order. (The publisher's page names the game as "Incognito" in this sentence, apparently a copy-and-paste slip from the sibling title.)
A printable Expedition Board, Notes Sheet, and the documents you had to write on during the game (Envelopes 3, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12) are available to download from the publisher's website.
