Cards

Mascletà is a card game for 1 to 7 players, lasting about 15 minutes. The cards are divided into:

  • 1 Pyrotechnician card
  • Basic deck: 12 cards
  • 3 special cards
  • 16 life cards (two for each player)

Note: the publisher's Verkami update lists 1 Pyrotechnician card, a basic deck of 12 cards, 3 special cards and 14 life cards (two for each player), for 33 cards in total, plus three rule cards (in Valencian, Spanish and English). The sheet's total is 32 cards and 16 life cards as printed above.

The basic deck is divided into Petardos (PUM), Carcasas (PAM) and Salidas (FIUUU).

How to Play

  • A player chosen at random receives the Pyrotechnician card. That player takes the cards to the centre of the table, placing them one on top of another.
  • Each player takes two life cards: one to show their lives and one to cover them. As a player loses lives, they slide the top card to the right.
  • The pyrotechnician shuffles all the cards and begins placing them on the table. The players must reproduce the sounds in sequence. (The sheet's example note is printed as an unfinished fragment, "Ej... Con imágenes", which reads roughly "e.g. ... with images"; it is transcribed as printed.)
  • When a player makes a mistake or does not know the sequence, that player loses one life.
  • The player who loses a life starts the next mascletà.
  • Counting on your fingers is not allowed.

Special Cards

There are three special cards. Each one is added to the sequence and changes how the next round is played.

  • La fallera: adds 1, 2 or 3 claps to the sequence, as decided by the player to whom the card is turned up.
  • El gros: all players place one of their hands on the card. The last player to place their hand loses one life. The pyrotechnician must place the hand they do not use for drawing cards.
  • Los músicos (The Musicians): the player to whom this card falls does not say the sequence. They only say "Ti-ro-rí". The next player says the sequence without "Ti-ro-rí" and including the new card.

End of the Game

The game ends when a player loses all their lives. The player with the most lives at that moment wins.

If several players are tied for the most lives, play a sudden-death mascletà. The winner of that mascletà is the winner of the game.

Solo Version

The sheet prints the solo version as a closing paragraph without a heading.

The solo version consists of setting yourself challenges, for example:

  • 3 series of 7 cards with 5 lives
  • 1 series of 9 cards with 3 lives
  • ...
