Starting Heroes

Gadeirus

Ability: Trade Ships

Each Sea that contains an Atlantian Trireme produces 1 Coin during the Collect Resources Phase. More than one Trireme in a single Sea does not produce more Coins. (+2 Trade)

History: Plato wrote that Gadeirus was Atlas's twin brother who ruled the part of Atlantis nearest the Pillars of Hercules. The Atlantian Sagas possibly chronicle the pre-writing rise of a western power that expanded East and came into conflict with the Greek cities that finally defeated them.

Brutus

Ability: Roman Roads

Brutus may build Caravans for only 2 Coins. Caravans still cost 3 different Commodities.

History: Lucius Junius Brutus led the revolt that overthrew Rome's last King and founded the Roman Republic in 509 BC. He served as one of the Republic's first Consuls. The Roman Republic expanded and trade thrived along the Roman Roads that reached to the edges of the known world. The Republic lasted until Julius Caesar's rise to power and the subsequent establishment of the Roman Empire in 27 BC.

Alexander

Ability: Alexandria (+1 Military)

Alexander receives a Legendary Resource for each Capital City his Empire controls, including during the first Collect Resources Phase.

History: Alexander the Great conquered a huge swath of territory that reached from Greece, through Persia, down to Egypt, and to the Beas River in India. He established a number of cities during his campaign that were each named Alexandria.

Xerxes

Ability: Conquered Armies (+2 Culture)

When Xerxes builds a City, he may pay 1 Coin to place a Legion in that City's Province.

History: Xerxes the Great ruled Persia during the height of its power. He belonged to a line of Persian King of Kings whose armies incorporated the troops of the cities and kingdoms they conquered. Xerxes invaded Greece with his great host but was ultimately forced to retreat back to Asia. Xerxes was assassinated by the commander of his Royal Body Guard in 465 BC.

Mago I

Ability: Phoenician Navy

Mago's Triremes roll Land Battle Dice in Combat instead of Sea Battle Dice.

History: Mago the First founded the Magonid Dynasty of Carthage in 550 BC, and for 20 years his leadership led to Carthage becoming the most powerful Phoenician City. His rule and legacy resulted in Carthage being a naval and military power in the Mediterranean that rivaled the Greeks and Romans.

Khufu

Ability: Wonder Builder

The first Hero or Wonder Tile that Khufu purchases is free, costing no Commodities or Coins.

History: Khufu was a Pharaoh during the 4th dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Egypt in the 26th century BC. He commissioned the building of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Little is known of this Egyptian Ruler and only one statue remains intact that depicts him. Despite what little we know of him, he is immortalized in the Wonder of the World that was his tomb.
