Principle of the Game
Find an answer beginning with the letter on the die for each category in 2 minutes flat!
Preparation
Give every player a pen and a slate on which each will write their answers.
Course of the Game
The game is played over 5 rounds.
1 - Starting the Round
At the start of each round, the round keeper:
- Gives all players a card with the same number, which they place in front of them without looking at it;
- Rolls the die and announces the letter to everyone;
- Then starts the sand timer.
The player with the smallest earlobes is the first round keeper. On the next round, the person to their left takes on this role, and so on.
2 - "Inspiration" Phase
Once the sand timer has been turned over, all players, including the round keeper, have 2 minutes to find and write on their slate an answer beginning with the letter shown on the die for each of the 8 categories on the card.
Important: It is up to the round keeper to announce when time is up!
3 - "Deliberation" Phase
-
Once time has run out, players may no longer write new answers on their slate and begin the "Deliberation" phase!
They must now argue and defend their answers in case these are not immediately accepted!
-
Taking turns (starting with the round keeper), players give their answer for category 1. If someone disagrees with the answer given by a player, that answer is then submitted to a general vote that will determine whether the answer is accepted or not.
-
Once all the answers for category 1 have been accepted or rejected, move on to category 2 on the card, and so on!
Important: The majority wins! In case of a tie, the answer is also accepted. Careful, you cannot vote on your own answers!
4 - Counting the Points
Note your points as you go:
- Accepted and unique answer (2 POINTS): you were the only one to find this answer and the other players accepted it!
- Accepted but shared answer (1 POINT): although the answer is accepted, you are not the only one to have proposed it for this category.
- Rejected answer (0 POINTS): sorry, the players voted and your answer is not kept...
When the 8 categories have been scored, the player who scored the most points wins the round and ticks the corresponding box to mark their victory.
In the example, Romane scored 11 points and won the first round! (Example: Romane's slate after the sand timer's 2 minutes, with the die showing the letter M. Her answers were MAMIE, MOULE, MAKI, MYCOSE, MASSAGE, MOTO and MITIGÉE, with a blank for one category.)
5 - Who Wins the Game?
After the 5 rounds, the player who has won the most rounds wins the game!
Ties
Important - Tie cases
- Tie on a round: players who are tied win the round together.
- Tie at the end of the game: if players are tied after the 5 rounds, they face off in one last round. The other players do not take part in this final, but are the only ones to vote to accept or reject the finalists' answers. In the rare case that the finalists have the same number of points in this last round, the other players vote for the winner according to who was the most creative in their opinion.
Authors' Clarifications
On the Form...
Take the example of this category: "..., it helps to cope with a breakup!". The die shows the letter "D".
-
Adjectives, articles, numbers, pronouns and prepositions do not count.
Example with an adjective: Gentle massage (rejected) Example with an article: Some massages (rejected) Example with a number: Ten massages (rejected)
-
You may, however, propose a single word, a group of words or a sentence.
Danser (Dancing) - accepted Draguer en boîte (Flirting in a club) - accepted Demander à un marabout de s'occuper de la poupée vaudou de votre ex (Asking a witch doctor to take care of your ex's voodoo doll) - accepted
-
Brands and, more broadly, proper nouns are allowed.
-
For people, the first name or surname may be accepted.
-
The same answer may be used only once per player and per round.
... And on the Substance!
On what criteria should an answer be accepted or not? Use your common sense (and not your bad faith!). Ask yourself whether the proposed answer fits the category. Will the other players be able to convince you?
Maintenance tip: at the end of the game, wipe the slates with a slightly damp cloth to keep them in good condition for many games!
