Preparation
On a sheet of paper, write each player's name in a column to record scores.
Shuffle the cards and form a draw deck, face down. Reveal one card from the deck and place it in the centre of the table. Each player draws one card from the deck and places it in their hand.
How to Play
A random player starts, and play passes clockwise. On your turn, do the following:
Play Your Card: Play a card from your hand onto the table so that it connects with at least one of the 6 cards already revealed on the table. Each card has six edges with one or two colours, as indicated beside. At least one edge of the card you played must connect with at least one edge of a card on the table. Cards must always connect through whole edges. If you connect one or more colours, you score points.
Score Your Points: After playing your card, count your score. Each card shows three or four stained-glass pieces. Each piece has a specific colour. Score each piece of the card you played separately. If the piece is connected to an area of the same colour, count all the pieces in that same-colour area. Score one point for each of these pieces, but do not count the piece on the card you played. The circles found at the centre of the stained-glass pieces on the cards are there to make counting points easier.
Examples: The source gives three scoring examples, labelled 2 points, 3 points and 6 points. Their diagrams are not reproduced in the text extraction, so only the stated totals are given here.
Write the total number of points you scored with the card you played in your column on the score sheet.
Draw a Card: End your turn by drawing a new card from the deck, if one is available, and adding it to your hand.
End of Game
The game ends when all the cards in the deck have been played. The player who has scored the most points is the winner. In case of a tie, the player who made the highest score with a single card, and whose score does not produce a new tie, wins. If the tie persists, the players share the victory.
Advanced Variant
For players who prefer a greater number of options on their turn: during preparation, each player draws two cards from the deck. When playing a card, the player refills their hand to a total of two cards, except when the draw deck runs out of cards.
Solo Play
When playing a solo game, play one card after another. Write down your score, and in your next games try to beat it. How many points can you score?
