Horse Abilities

Each Horse Card has a unique ability. Horse abilities only apply while the horse is owned by a player. Each ability begins with an icon or keyword that shows when its effect occurs.

1 Numbers Game

When bought: At the end of this round, set the [Horse Die symbol] to [Horse Die 1]. Do not roll the [Horse Die symbol] next round.

2 Half Off Sale

When bought: You may buy an additional horse for half price.

3 Loosey Goosey

When bought: Erase up to two marks on your [Horseshoe icon].

[Horseshoe icon]: The base rulebook does not print a horseshoe icon. It is read as the Wild Number spaces, which the base rulebook describes as erasable (see the base rulebook, Wild Numbers and Getting Stuck). This is inferred from context and matches the reading used for the Horse Set 5 (Hot Dog) mini-expansion.

4 Clip 'N Save

When bought: Receive a refund of $2 for each horse you own, including this one.

5 Tollbooth Tina

When an opponent buys a second horse: They must first pay you $2.

6 Kick the Tires

Alternate action: You may sell this horse back to the bank for its cost if no horse has finished the race.

The photo partly covers the final letter of "RACE" in this text, under the neighbouring card. The wording is shown as the card's standard text; the covered letter is not visible in the photo.

The base rulebook has no sell action. "Alternate action" is printed on the card as the heading for this ability; it is transcribed as printed, without an added rule.

7 Inventory Check

When bought: Mark any 2 [Helmet icon] (do not perform [Helmet icon] actions).

The card title is partly covered by the neighbouring card in the photo, and reads "INVENTOR… CHEC…" here. The name "Inventory Check" is taken from the source record (SOURCE.md) and is consistent with the visible letters.

[Helmet icon]: The icon is a dome with a grille-like face, the same shape family as the Helmet icons on the base Player Board. It is read as the Helmet icon by elimination against the base rulebook's ability keywords. Shown in brackets because the photo does not allow a certain match.

8 Capital Gains

[Horse Die symbol] [8]: Gain $1 for each horse you own.

Card Notes

  • [Set emblem]: The small barn at the bottom right of each card marks this as Horse Set 8 (Barn). It is a set emblem, not a rules icon.
  • [Cost]: The green banknote at the top right of each card shows the horse's cost, as in the base game. Visible in the photo: card 1 costs $10 and card 5 costs $6. The other costs are covered or not legible.
  • [Secondary Movement Bar]: The row of eight horse spaces along the bottom of each card is that horse's Secondary Movement Bar. Each card has pre-printed X marks on it, which work the same way as X marks made by players (see the base rulebook, Round Sequence, step 3). Pre-printed X marks as shown on the card photo:
    • Card 1: horse 6
    • Card 2: not visible (horse 4 is covered by card 1 in the photo; horses 1, 2 and 3 have no X)
    • Card 3: horse 1
    • Card 4: horse 2
    • Card 5: horses 1 and 4
    • Card 6: horses 2 and 3
    • Card 7: horses 1 and 3
    • Card 8: horse 2
  • [Bet Odds column]: The stacked numbers on the right edge of each card are the horse's Bet Odds for finish positions (see the base rulebook, Bet Odds). Visible in the photo: card 1 shows 5, 4, 3 and card 5 shows 7, 6, 5. The others are not legible.
