- The unused cards are placed face down in the nap corner.
Goal of the Game
Collect the Treasure Chests filled with gold coins and become the richest captain. But beware: the other crews will try to seize them too.
Course of the Game
The game is played in 2 steps:
- Recruiting the Adventurers
- The Gold Rush
Step 1: Recruiting the Adventurers
Before setting off to conquer the treasures, you must put together your team of Adventurers.
You have 5 cards in hand. Choose one that you want to keep and place it, face down, on your Ship. Pass the other cards, face down, to your left neighbour, then pick up the cards from your right neighbour. Choose again the card you like best and place it, too, on your Ship. Then pass the 3 cards that remain to your left neighbour, and continue like this until you receive only a single card from your right neighbour. When you have 5 cards on your Ship, your team is complete and you can move on to step 2.
Step 2: The Gold Rush
This step is divided into 2 phases: Phase 1, The Chest Attack, and Phase 2, Sharing the Loot.
Phase 1: The Chest Attack
Now that your team of intrepid Adventurers is ready, it is time to rush the chests on the beach!
Pick up the 5 cards placed on your Ship. Look at the Treasure Chests on the beach. Choose the Adventurer card you want to play. When all players are ready, let out your battle cries and simultaneously place your card, face down, in front of the pile of chests of your choice.
Then go on to PHASE 2.
N.B.: All players must play their Adventurer card at the same time. If a player does not place their card at the same time as the others, they are eliminated for this turn and their Adventurer card goes to the nap corner.
Phase 2: Sharing the Loot
Once the chest attack has been made, the players begin to share the loot. Turn the played Adventurer cards face up.
The loot is shared according to strict rules:
- Parrots only open blue chests.
- Leopards only open yellow chests.
- Rhinos only open red chests.
Several situations can arise:
There is only one Adventurer card in front of the pile of chests
- If the Adventurer can open the chest: the player takes the Chest card, puts it under their Ship, face down, and places their Adventurer in the nap corner.
- If the Adventurer cannot open the chest: the player places their Adventurer directly in the nap corner.
There are several Adventurer cards in front of the pile of chests
If several Adventurers are positioned on the same pile of Treasure Chests, the battle begins!
The Adventurers of the same colour as the chest fight each other. The most powerful of them (that is, the one with the highest number) wins the chest. The victorious player places the won chest under their Ship, face down, and discards their Adventurer card.
Careful, the attack continues... The remaining Adventurers can now try to seize the next chest of the same pile. The conditions remain the same. An Adventurer can only open the chest whose key they have. If two or more Adventurers fight, the strongest wins the Treasure Chest card, and the other Adventurers can try to seize the next chest or are discarded to the nap corner.
N.B.: Keep the contents of your Treasure Chest cards secret until the end of the game!
Repeat step 2 until you have played your last card
When you have no more cards in hand, step 2 is over. If there are still chests available, shuffle all the Adventurer cards in the nap corner and start playing again from step 1; otherwise, go to the End of the Game.
End of the Game
The game ends when all the Treasure Chests on the beach have been collected.
Each player then turns over all their Treasure Chest cards and counts the number of gold coins they have accumulated. Each coin is worth 1.
The player with the most gold coins wins the game!
Variant: The Adventurer Chiefs
Spice up your games by adding the Adventurer Chief cards to the base game! These cards have the following effects:
- Parrot Chief - Value 0: Cunning; if he manages to open a blue chest, he also takes the chest just below it, whatever its colour.
- Leopard Chief - Value 0: Skilful; he takes the key of the last Adventurer of the pile who left with a chest. He can therefore open a red chest if the last Adventurer is red, or a blue chest if the last Adventurer is blue, according to the basic rules.
- Rhino Chief - Value 0: Imposing; he makes all Adventurer cards on his pile that have a value of 3 or more flee. He can then take a chest of his colour according to the basic rules.
Careful: there can be only one Chief on a pile of Treasure Chests. If two or more Chiefs are played on the same pile, the cards are discarded immediately and their effect is not applied.
