Do I have to show my hand to other players?
The designer said it is up to the playgroup, with open talk as the default and a restriction only for Hidden Agendas.

No rule forces you to. It is up to your playgroup, but the default is that everyone may talk about anything, including showing their hands. In a Hidden Agenda game you must not reveal or discuss your agenda beyond saying you are a good guy, whether or not it is true.
