The rulebook says a copy cannot be killed or discarded and the card goes to the coordinator's discard.

No. The coordinated card acts as though you played it, with everything it shows. The card must have the Coordinate keyword, and the copy cannot be killed or discarded; the original goes back to its owner's discard pile.
