Contents

  • 5 game boards showing scented flowers, fruits, plants or household products.
  • 30 scent vials (tokens), each releasing a different scent when opened.
  • One rulebook.

Interest of the Game

Children are very receptive to smells from an early age. The game lets you stimulate that sense so that children learn to recognise the scented elements of the world around them.

The scent lotto also takes you and your children back into the heart of your memories and allows a very rich exchange about the memories that each scent evokes.

Goal

Be the first to complete your board or boards with the scent vials that match the picture on each square. Each vial is checked by looking at the name of the scent printed on its underside.

Preparation

  1. Open the 30 vials by lightly fitting each cap onto the lower part of the vial. Arrange the vials in front of the players.
  2. Give each player one or two boards, depending on the number of players.

Rules of Play

  1. The first player draws a vial, tries to recognise the scent, and places it on one of their boards if the picture shows that scent.
  2. If the player cannot identify the scent, or the scent does not belong on their boards, they put the vial back into the game, but to one side, so that they do not keep drawing the same vial.
  3. The next player does the same, and so on around the table.
  4. The vials set aside by the opponent or opponents are then smelled.
  5. The first player to complete their board or boards stops the game.
  6. At that point, put the caps back on the vials and turn each vial over to check whether the identification was correct.
  7. If no board has been filled correctly, the game continues. Vials that were placed incorrectly are returned to the others, and play resumes until one player has correctly identified every scent on their board or boards.

Solo play: place the boards in front of you and smell the vials to complete them.

Selection of Scents

The scents in this game were chosen with great care by a perfumer for their resemblance to the smells of nature and of the household.

As with colours, however, scents have nuances, and you must learn to extrapolate from a familiar olfactory reference point. For example, if you are used to eating Golden apples, you will not spontaneously recognise the green apple scent in the game.

Recommendations

  • Scented vials are meant to be smelled, not tasted. It is recommended to forbid children from putting them in their mouths.
  • To smell a vial, hold it about one centimetre from your nose.
  • To keep each scent intact, replace the matching cap on its vial after every use.
  • This game is not suitable for children under 36 months (small parts may be swallowed).
  • Do not keep the game near a source of heat or in direct sunlight.
  • If well looked after, the game has a lifespan of more than two years.
