Case 02 Components

  • Dossier Deck, Case 02: 8 Criminal Activities, 16 Dossiers
  • 22 Witnesses (Case 02)
  • 54-card Draft (Case 02)
  • 6 Strategies (Case 02)

Godfather Setup: Case 02

(see example on page 8)

4a. Select a Strategy: Take the Case 02 Strategy Cards. The Prosecution selects a Prosecution Strategy (P, red) and the Defense selects a Defense Strategy (D, blue). Any unused Strategies are returned to the box.

4b. Key Witnesses and Witness Deck: Place the Witnesses listed on the selected Strategies (5 on the Prosecution's Strategy, 4 on the Defense's Strategy) around the Judge. Give "Carmine Monacelli" to the Defense. Shuffle all remaining Witnesses together to form the Witness deck and set it off to the side.

4c. Dossier: Take the 12 Dossier cards listed on the selected Strategy cards. Shuffle them together to form the Dossier deck and set it off to the side.

4d. Jury: Take the 12 Juror cards and place them normal side (no lock symbols visible) up in two rows off to the side of the main play area. Each row must have a complete set of Jurors, from 1 to 6.

4e. Jury Bias: Take the 12 Bias tokens and assign one at random to each Juror. Assign them so that all Jurors in the top row have one of these tokens on one empty slot on the Prosecution's side, and all Jurors in the bottom row have one on the Defense's side.

4f. Case Deck: Shuffle the 54 remaining Case 02 cards in the middle of the play area within easy reach of both players.

Case 02: Dossier

Dossier cards have the following parts:

  1. Card Name
  2. Type: The Defense's Criminal Activities are labeled Criminal Activity.
  3. Card Effect: When Dossier cards are resolved, read and trigger the effect.

Criminal Activities immediately trigger and go to the Dossier discard.

The Prosecution's Dossier cards are resolved and placed face-up in a tableau.

When a Dossier card instructs to "lock a Bias in its current position," you should rotate that Juror 90 degrees to denote it is locked. There is no way to unlock Jurors in this case.

Example card, "Witness Tampering," Criminal Activity: Whack a Key Witness, other than the current Witness.

Example card, "Luke Alfonsi's Death": The Prosecution may lock 1 Evidential in its current position. (The card shows the magnifier bias symbol, which is the Evidential symbol.)

Ending Case 02

The game proceeds to closing statements after all of the Key Witnesses have been called and resolved.

Closing Statements

Each player should count up their Claimed Witnesses. The player with the most Claimed Witnesses will get to draw cards from the Dossier for each Witness they've claimed over their opponent's total. For each Dossier card drawn, they may choose to resolve or discard it.

Declaring a Winner

Resolve any Dossier cards that sway Jurors after Closing Statements. The player with the majority of Jurors swayed to their side wins. If there is a tie, the player with the most Claimed Witnesses wins. If there is still a tie, the player who has the Judge's favor wins.

Case 02 Glossary

Criminal Activity cards are beneficial to the Defense. When resolved, their effect triggers immediately and these cards are placed in the Dossier discard.

Dossier refers to the Dossier deck. When the Prosecution's Dossier cards are resolved, read the effect and place it face-up into a tableau. Some effects trigger immediately and others happen after Closing Statements.
