New Rules
Sacrifice
Some Zombie cards now show a sacrifice cost. These cards can only be played at the start of the Zombie turn. To play one, the Zombie player must pay the sacrifice cost, which is printed in grey on the card.
If the sacrifice requires removing a Zombie miniature from the board, return that miniature to the supply. These Zombies are not counted as killed.
Scenario Special Conditions
The Hunt for Survivors scenario uses some special rules. They are marked in red at the top of the "Scenario Objectives" paragraph on its card.
Number Tokens [Жетоны с числами]
If a scenario uses the special rule "Number Tokens", take the tokens numbered 1 to 6, shuffle them, and place them face down, without looking at them, on 6 random buildings (limit 1 per building). These tokens affect the entire building, not just one space. The number on a Number Token cannot be changed by any modifier.
A Hero in a building may, instead of moving and searching in that building, flip over a Number Token there. The effect of the revealed number is described in the individual scenario that uses this rule.
Translator's note: the Mangertus text adds one sentence about Taken Over tokens not being placed in a building that holds a Number Token. That sentence is not in the rules PDF and is not transcribed here.
Hero Starting Cards [Начальный набор карт Героев (1)]
This replaces the Hero starting cards (x) rule from the Growing Hunger expansion.
All Heroes start the game with 1 additional free Hero card, on top of the cards they receive by default. This also applies to Heroes who enter the game after the start of the scenario. Starting Hero cards are drawn from the top of the Hero deck, so abilities such as Resourceful can be used on them.
If one of the starting Hero cards is a Scenario item card, shuffle it back into the Hero deck and draw a replacement.
Heroes Replenish [Герои восполняют свои ряды]
When a Hero dies (or turns into a Hero-Zombie), the player controlling that Hero may immediately place a new Hero on the game board in place of the dead one. This new Hero enters the game according to the procedure described in the base rulebook.
Note that, unless the scenario states otherwise, the Zombies still win by killing four Heroes. Also note that if a player controls only one Hero, that Hero still turns into a Zombie after death.
Zombie Auto Spawn [Автоматическое порождение зомби]
The player controlling the Zombies ALWAYS places new Zombies at the end of the Zombie turn (by dice roll, per Step 6 – Place new spawned Zombies). Because of this, you may skip Step 3 – Roll for Zombie Spawn, since it is not needed.
New Heroes
Miniatures
The expansion includes four new hero miniatures, each matched by a Character card. The photographs of the miniatures in the source are not reproduced here.
Jade (rebel student)
- Rebellious: Cannot be wounded in combat unless she rolls a double on her combat dice. Also gets an extra combat die if she is on the same space as another Hero who has the Strange trait.
- Youth: Instead of the Movement phase, may fully heal.
Translator's note: the Mangertus text limits the Rebellious bonus to a Hero with the Strange trait. The Questions and Clarifications below (Jade ruling) describe the bonus as one extra die for the presence of extraneous Heroes in her space and do not mention the trait. The two sources disagree on this point. The Strange-trait wording is kept as printed in the ability text; check it against the Jade card before relying on it.
Mr. Goddard (chemistry teacher)
- Fire: Always carries "fire" and ignores the Light Out effect.
- Quick Thinking: At any time, may discard two items to immediately draw one card from the Hero deck, or take any Event (including Play Immediately cards or Townsfolk) from the Hero deck discard pile.
Stacy (investigative journalist)
- Daring: May move and search in a building with a Taken Over token.
- Reckless: If she ends her movement on a Zombie Spawn Point, she may immediately take a card from the Hero deck.
Victor (escaped convict)
- Convict: Starts the game with the Zombie card I Don't Trus'em.
- Lock Pick: Ignores locked doors.
- Rage: Rolls an extra combat die for each hand weapon he owns.
New Scenario: Hunt for Survivors
The Russian rules PDF calls this scenario "Поиск выживших" (Search for Survivors). The scenario card is titled "Охота за выжившими" (Hunt for Survivors), and that is the name used here.
Scenario Card
- Turns: 16
- Zombies: Zombie auto-spawn [Автоматическое порождение зомби]
- Heroes: Hero starting cards (1) [Начальный набор карт героев], Heroes replenish [Герои восполняют свои ряды], Number Tokens (1–6) [Жетоны с числами (1–6)]
Setup and Rules
-
Place the Truck marker on the central space; all Heroes start the game from there. One of the Heroes starts with the keys to the Truck. Mark them with a token, for example a small red marker. The Number Tokens represent survivors in this town.
-
When a Number Token is revealed, roll a D6. If the result is less than the number on the token, you have found a surviving townsperson. Take a random Townsfolk marker and place it on the Hero. If the result is greater than the number on the token, nothing happens. If the result equals the number on the token, you have found a Hero, and you roll the die again. On 1–3, take a Hero-Zombie and place it on this space. On 4–6, take a new Hero and place it on this space. The new Hero immediately joins the team.
-
When a Hero card has one or more Townsfolk tokens on it, that Hero rolls one additional combat die. Surviving Townsfolk tokens and the Keys marker can be passed between Heroes on the same space (they do not affect the item limit). If a Hero carrying one or more markers is killed, the markers stay on the space and can be picked up by any Hero who moves onto that space.
-
Heroes must reveal ALL Number Tokens before they can win. Victory is achieved when, at the end of a Hero turn, at least 2 Heroes (one of them carrying the Keys marker) and ALL surviving Townsfolk are on the Truck before sunset.
Scenario Notes
- This scenario has no Search scenario items. At the start, one Hero has a token marking the Keys to the Truck. This token is separate from the Car Keys card and cannot be replaced by it. To win, the Heroes must bring the Keys token to the Truck.
- During the game, Heroes will find survivors to rescue. Use other tokens from the base game or the Growing Hunger expansion to mark these survivors. It does not matter which tokens are used, and they have no connection to the Townsfolk Event cards. These Surviving Townsfolk cannot take any actions. Heroes can pick them up and carry them. They are dropped on the space where the carrying Hero is killed.
- If the Keys token or a Surviving Townsfolk token is dropped inside a building taken over by Zombies, the Zombie player must immediately move that token (or those tokens) to any outdoor space adjacent to the captured building. If there is no free space, move the token two spaces from the building. This also applies if the building is taken over AFTER the token(s) were dropped.
Questions and Clarifications
Q: Must a Hero die, or turn into a Hero-Zombie, for the Heroic Sacrifice card [Героическая жертва] to work?
A: Yes. Note that the top line of the card text contains a colon. This means the card has an effect only if the Hero dies.
Q: If I have a Wrench card [Разводной ключ], can I discard a Zombie card in play when I win a combat?
A: Only if you apply the special ability of the Wrench in that combat.
Q: How does the Zombie card Twisted Ankle [Подвернул ногу] work with Billy's Track Star ability [Звезда трека]?
A: First the movement penalty from Twisted Ankle is applied, and then Billy's bonus is added to the resulting number.
Q: Does the effect of the Zombie card Hunger of the Dead [Голод мертвых] mean that the Zombie player may have more than 4 cards in hand?
A: Yes, temporarily. At the start of the next turn of the Zombie player, before the Draw Cards phase, they must reduce their hand to the normal number of cards.
Q: Does Jade's Rebellious ability [Непокорная] give her +1 combat die for each other extraneous Hero in her space?
A: No. Jade gets 1 additional combat die for the mere fact that extraneous Heroes are in her space.
Q: Can Mr. Goddard throw his personal fire item to set a Flammable token alight?
A: Yes. He can throw it as an ordinary fire item (for example, a Lighter [Зажигалка]). The item does not lose its features when it is thrown.
Q: Does Mr. Goddard's personal fire item work in scenarios where the Heroes must find a Fire item?
A: Yes, but only for as long as Mr. Goddard is alive and able to use it.
Q: If Stacy uses her Reckless ability [Неудержимая], can she take an additional Hero card if she did not move this turn? For example, if she starts her turn on a Zombie Spawn Point and, instead of moving, performs a Search?
A: Yes. If Stacy ends her turn on a Zombie Spawn Point, she gets 1 additional Hero card.
Q: If Victor uses his Rage ability [Ярость], does he have to use his hand weapon to get the extra combat die?
A: No. Victor gets one extra die for each hand weapon he holds, whether or not he uses that weapon's combat bonus.
