- 168 task cards
- 64 hunch cards (numbered 1–8 in each of the eight colors)
- 8 number cards (1–8)
- 8 player tableaus
- 92 point chips (values 1, 3, 5, 10, and 25)
- 100 symbol tokens (64 "simpler" ones, 36 "more special" ones)
Setup
Each of you receives, in the color of your choice:
- your hunch cards (the number of cards is explained below);
- your tableau, which you place face up in front of you.
Note: the reverse sides of the tableaus can also be used. This side does not show an easel, so there is no "bottom" or "top." Whoever uses this side always turns their tableau round once they finish, so that the other players see it right way up.
Lay out the number cards in the middle of the table as follows:
- 3–5 players: number cards 1–6 (hunch cards per player: 1–6)
- 6–7 players: number cards 1–7 (hunch cards per player: 1–7)
- 8 players: number cards 1–8 (hunch cards per player: 1–8)
Place the task cards as a well-shuffled, face-down deck in the middle of the table.
Note: the terms that show a red line through the middle are more suitable for adults and can be sorted out for a game with children.
Spread the symbol tokens face down in the middle of the table and place the point chips next to them, sorted by value and within easy reach.
How to Play
The game runs over 6 rounds. Each round plays out the same way. At the start, determine a first start player — for example, the player wearing the most colorful clothing. The role of start player then moves from round to round, clockwise.
-
As start player, first shuffle the symbol tokens in the middle of the table. Then hand out one task card, still face down, to each player, including yourself, going around the table.
Careful! Each player may only look at their own card!
-
Each player takes 9 face-down symbol tokens from the middle of the table: 6 simpler ones (light-colored backs) and 3 more special ones (dark-colored backs). Lay your 9 symbols face up next to your tableau.
-
Using the symbols, build a construction on your tableau that matches your task as closely as possible.
Example: if your task is "James Bond," you could, for instance, try to recreate a pistol — or the numbers 007, or an explosion, or...
You may use any number of your 9 tokens — none, only one, some, or even all of the symbols. You may place them on your "canvas" any way you like (make sure the foot of the easel stays at the bottom!): next to each other, apart, or even on top of one another. The only thing that is not allowed is using the tokens with their reverse side showing!
-
Once you are finished, turn your tableau 180° so that your fellow players see your construction the right way round! Simply return your unused symbols, face down, to the middle of the table.
-
Return your task card, still face down, to the start player. Once the start player has all the cards back, they draw additional task cards, face down, from the draw pile:
- with 3 to 5 players, enough that they have 6 cards in total;
- with 6 players, exactly 1 more card, so that they have 7 cards in total;
- with 7 or 8 players, they draw no further card, so they have 7 or 8 cards in total, respectively.
-
As start player, now shuffle the (6 to 8) task cards face down, then deal them out one by one, face up, onto the number cards in the middle of the table. Make sure the numbers on the number cards stay visible (see illustration). Now everyone can see which tasks are in play.
-
Now slide the hunch card that shows the number next to which your own task card was placed halfway under your tableau, face down (illustration below).
Example: if your task card was revealed next to number card 5, slide your face-down hunch card with the 5 under your tableau.
-
Now try to work out which construction belongs to which task, for all of your fellow players. As soon as you have an idea which creation matches which task, place the matching hunch card face down in front of that tableau. You may all do this in any order and at the same time. This continues until every player has placed exactly one hunch card in front of every other player.
Example: if you believe Sandra's creation matches the task card "Buddha" (next to number card 2), place your hunch card showing 2 face down in front of Sandra's tableau.
End of the Game
The game ends after 6 rounds. Whoever now has the most points is the winner. In case of a tie, there are multiple winners.
