Goal of the Game
Whoever pays close attention and quickly snaps up the correct wooden figure collects valuable cards. The first player to have five cards wins.
Setup
Place the five wooden figures in the middle of the table.
Before the first game, look at a few sample cards together. Each one shows one of the wooden figures:
- in the correct colour or in a wrong colour
- against a two-coloured background
Shuffle the cards and place them face down as a draw pile.
Gameplay
Because the Vikings were a wild people, the player with the most fearsome glare begins. If you can all glare equally fearsomely, the oldest player begins.
Take the draw pile and turn the top card face up in the middle of the table. Be quick about it, so that everyone can see the card at the same time.
Everyone must now try to snap up the correct wooden figure. But which one is actually the correct wooden figure?
-
Does the pictured figure have the colour of the corresponding wooden figure? Then you must quickly try to snap up the pictured figure. Example: On this card is a blue ship with a green meadow and a yellow wheat field. The correct wooden figure is the blue ship.
-
Does the pictured figure have a different colour from the wooden figure? Then the correct wooden figure is a different shape. Its colour must also not be visible on the card. You must search for that figure and snap it up. Example: On this card is a yellow ship with red earth and a green meadow. The correct wooden figure is not the blue ship, because the pictured figure has a wrong colour. It is not the red Viking, because the colour red (earth) is visible on the card. It is not the green Viking child, because the colour green (meadow) is also visible. It is not the yellow treasure chest, because the colour yellow (ship) is also visible. The correct wooden figure is therefore the white dog!
Did you snap the correct wooden figure? Well done! As a reward you receive the revealed card. Place it face down in front of you and return the wooden figure to the middle of the table. Then begin the next round: take the draw pile and turn the top card face up. You remain the one turning cards over until another player snaps a correct wooden figure.
Did you snap a wrong wooden figure? Bad luck! You may only rejoin the game with the next card. The other players keep trying to snap the correct wooden figure.
Sometimes several players, or even all of them, end up holding a wrong wooden figure. In that case no player receives the card, and the card is placed back in the box.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as a player has won the fifth card. That player wins the game and is crowned the fastest Viking of the world's oceans.
Rule Variants
-
For especially unruly Vikings: Whoever snapped a wrong wooden figure must give back a card they have already won. This applies only if that player already has a card.
-
For especially nimble Vikings: Of course you may also agree on a different number of cards for the end of the game. Agree on a card count before the game begins. Whoever wishes may instead play until all cards have been distributed.
