Icons and Layout

Card text is transcribed as printed. Icons are written as words in square brackets. The meanings below come from the base game rulebook (Feudal Kingdom), whose icon reference applies to this expansion.

  • Resources: [Coin], [Wood], [Stone], [Metal], [Sword], and [Trade Good] (the barrel icon).
  • Effect icons: a green check is an Activated effect (you may discard the card to carry out the effect). An hourglass is a Time effect (you may discard the card, unless it is permanent, and end your turn to carry out the effect). An infinity sign is a Passive effect (always applies, or may be used repeatedly). A yellow lightning bolt is a Triggered Optional Effect. A red lightning bolt is a Triggered Forced Effect. A red card-shaped icon is a Destroy effect.
  • Arrows: a down arrow means rotate the card so that the top and bottom parts switch places. A right arrow means flip the card to its back side. Arrows pointing left or up are printed on the cards as they appear here and are transcribed as [left arrow] and [up arrow].
  • Medal icon: fame.
  • Card numbers: each number is printed next to a balance-scale symbol, the Merchants marker. It is written here as "card 01", etc.
  • Upgrade boxes: a brown box on a card shows the cost to upgrade it and an arrow showing the direction of the upgrade. Where a cost is shown only as a picture of icons, it is noted in the card entry.
  • Faces: each card has an upper half and a lower half. The lower half is printed upside down. Where a face has only one half, that is noted.

Setup: Welcome Card (Card 00)

Front: Welcome

WELCOME to Merchants!

If you have any questions about any card, our website with a full FAQ is just one scan away. [QR code printed on the card]

Before you start: Perform a purge 7 and also purge 2 permanent cards.

After the purge, [right arrow].

Back: Instructions

Play with normal rules, but without discovering any cards automatically each round. Instead, only discover Merchants (card 01), and it will determine what cards you can discover and will guide you through 4 rounds of gameplay (note that the Merchants are permanent).

When you are done: Add sticker 13e to your score path on the side of your box and write your new score next to it. Each kingdom may only play Merchants once.

Search each card you have discovered from this expansion. If they refer to undiscovered cards, place those cards behind your own discoverable cards in your box. Destroy any remaining cards from this expansion.

Gaps and Disclosures

  • The card text database carries no icons. Every icon here was read from the card scans. The names of effect and resource icons follow the base game's icon reference.
  • Costs drawn only as pictures (the Shoemaking track; the coin and Trade Good combinations in the upgrade boxes on Pair of Camels, Pair of Sheep, Chicken Farm and Chicken; the arrow directions in some upgrade boxes) are described rather than written out in full. Check them against the card in hand.
  • The red icon in the "defeat" and "when complete" positions is written as [Destroy effect]. This is matched to the base game's icon reference.
  • The Welcome card's QR code is not transcribed; it is noted in place as a QR code.
