Can a critical wound happen when the hit location has no Critical Wound section, or when the roll plus strength totals 10+?
Several experienced players agree; the rulebook covers the critical-section requirement but not every detail.

No to both. A critical wound only happens on a lantern-10 roll (9 or 10 with Luck) and only against a hit location that has a Critical Wound section. If the roll wounds anyway it is a normal wound; if it would only have wounded as a crit, there is neither crit nor wound. A high total from adding Strength is just a regular wound.
