When do armor points reset, and is gear lost when its armor points hit zero?

Armor points are not restored at the end of the showdown; they are recalculated from the gear grid when survivors depart for the next hunt. Armor isn't discarded just because its armor points reach zero. It is only lost when a card or event says so, and then the armor points it gave are removed immediately.
