Contents of the game
- 1 symbol die
- 1 coloured die
- 9 tiles (with thieves on the front and plates on the back)
- 1 squeaky sushi master
- 16 fish coins
Preparing to play
The 9 tiles are placed in a circle in the middle of the table, with the plate sides face-up.
The sushi master is then placed in the middle of the circle.
The fish coins are placed a short distance away from the game.
How to play
The youngest player picks up both dice and is the first to play. The person whose turn it is casts both dice. From this point, everyone plays at the same time and tries to bang their hands down on the plate tile as quick as a flash or try to grab the sushi master.
The following situations may arise:
Bang your hand down on a plate tile
The results of the dice comprising symbol and colour show a combination which is missing on one of the plates in the middle of the table. Now the players have to bang their flat hand down as quickly as possible on the searched-for plate tile.
Example: (illustration in the original rulebook)
The first player to strike the plate tile – i.e. the player whose hand is right at the bottom – turns over the tile to check it. If the thief (ant, cockroach or rat) is featured on the searched-for dice combination of symbol and colour, this player may place the tile with the thief side face-up in front of them.
Important: each player is only allowed to bang one hand down on the tile once per cast combination. This means that each player only gets one try.
If one or several players accidentally bang their hands on the wrong tile, play simply continues as if nothing had happened. In a clockwise direction, it is now the next player's turn to throw the dice.
Making a grab for the sushi master
The sushi master must be grabbed if the dice show a combination which has already been turned over – with the thief side face-up:
A) The combination shows an own already upturned tile
If the dice show a combination which is already visible on a tile in front of a player, this player has to make a fast grab for the sushi master.
Important: the player has to make the sushi master squeak, at the same time naming the thief illustrated on the searched-for tile.
Example: (illustration in the original rulebook)
Reward
If the player correctly names the thief after they have made the sushi master squeak, they receive a fish coin as a reward. The tile is then put back in the middle with the plate side face-up. It is now the next player's turn to throw the dice.
Error
If the player with the searched-for dice combination face-up in front of them makes one of the following errors, they have to put their tile with the plate side face-up back in the middle of the table. This player doesn't receive a fish coin.
- They forget or delay making the sushi master squeak.
- They forget or delay naming the thief.
- They name the wrong thief.
B) The combination displays an up-turned tile of another player
If the dice show a combination which is already displayed face-up in front of a different player, the other players also make a fast grab for the sushi master.
Important: the other players must NOT make the sushi master squeak; however, they must name the thief illustrated on the searched-for tile.
Example: (illustration in the original rulebook)
Reward
If one of the other players reacted quicker than the owner of the tile, this player receives the tile from that player and places it in front of them with the thief side face-up. It is now the next player's turn to throw the dice.
Error
If one of the players without the searched-for dice combination makes one of the following mistakes, the owner of the tile is immediately given a fish coin as a reward. The owner of the tile then places it back in the middle of the table face-up.
- They accidentally make the sushi master squeak, either themselves or caused by another player.
- They forget or delay naming the thief.
- They name the wrong thief.
Special case: accidentally grabbing instead of banging
If one of the players accidentally grabs the sushi master, although they should have banged their hand down on a plate tile, they have to return one of their tiles to the middle of the table. If the player doesn't have any upturned tiles in front of them, play continues as normal.
Please note: a player may not have more than 5 upturned tiles in front of them. If they are awarded a further tile, either from the middle of the table or from another player, they then have to return it to the middle of the table, face-up.
End of the game and winner
The game comes to an end as soon as a player has collected 4 fish coins. This player is the winner.
Alternative version for younger players
In this version for younger players, the tiles are already placed around the sushi master, face-up, at the start of the game, i.e. with the thief side face-up. The plate back sides aren't used in this version of the game. Play the game as described above.
