1 game board, 4 playing pieces, 1 catapult with 2 uprights, 1 catapult chip, 12 candle chips, 4 player chips, 1 cockroach with upright, 10 garlic chips

Goal of the Game

Everyone plays together against Kakerlacula. As soon as all 12 candles are burning and you still have garlic left, you win the game.

Setup

Punch all parts out of the punch board. Assemble the game board from its three pieces. Attach the upright to the cockroach and place it on its starting space with the grey stones. The arrow shows the direction in which Kakerlacula moves. Choose a playing piece and place it in the children's room with the light wooden floor. Here you are always safe from the cockroach. Place the player chip in the same colour in front of you.

Distribute all 12 candle chips on the candle spaces of the matching colour on the game board.

Assemble the catapult by attaching the uprights on the left and right exactly within the marking. Place the catapult next to the game board and put the catapult chip on the dark circle.

Depending on the number of players, place the garlic chips next to the game board.

Let's Get Started!

Basic Rules for 3 and 4 Players

With 3 players you receive 7 garlic chips; with 4 players there are 10 chips.

The youngest player begins, and then you take turns in turn order. When it is your turn, you fling the catapult chip by tapping with your finger on the opposite side of the catapult. The chip should spin in the air if possible.

Move up to three rooms in any direction. You may only move across the lines between the rooms, not through the walls. Standing in the same room as several children is allowed. However, you must never move through rooms or stand in a room where Kakerlacula is!

If you reach a room that contains a candle of your player colour, you stop and may forfeit any remaining steps. Remove the candle chip, and your candle is now lit. Then the next player takes their turn.

Oh no! Kakerlacula scurries off! The path it follows is marked on the game board with a white dashed line, and it may go around the board several times during play. Move it in the direction of the arrow up to the next cockroach symbol.

Each child it meets on the way immediately flees to the children's room! For each playing piece driven out in this way, you lose one garlic chip, which is removed from the game.

The player who fired the catapult may move their playing piece one room further. They decide whether to move their piece first and then move Kakerlacula, or the other way round. Both moves must be carried out. It can happen that their playing piece flees to the children's room and then immediately goes back into the room in front of it.

Lighting Other Candles

If all the candles of your colour are lit, you may help the other children. With three players, however, you must first light the candles of the colour that is not in play, before you help your fellow players.

End of the Game

Do you manage to light all the candles and still have garlic left? Then you have successfully driven out Kakerlacula and win the game!

If you have no garlic left to protect you from Kakerlacula, it wins. On to the next round. This time you will surely manage to drive out the vampire cockroach!

Tip: If you have won, you may place Kakerlacula on the catapult and, as a reward, catapult him back into the box. Every one of you is welcome to try this once!

Rules for Two Players

Set out 10 garlic chips.

Each player plays with two playing pieces, which always move in the same order. Determine this order by laying out the four player chips in a row, ideally alternating between a colour of player one and a colour of player two.

Here too, you first light only the candles of your own player colours before you help your fellow player. The remaining rules apply as described above.
