Overview
The exciting tile shifting game for 2–4 players, ages 4–8.
Contents
- 1 game board
- 4 wizards
- 12 secret item tokens
- 17 maze tiles
Object of the Game
Move through the labyrinth to find the secret items. Whoever collects the most secret items wins the game.
Before You Begin
Before you play your first game, carefully separate the maze tiles and the secret item tokens.
Four of the maze tiles are double-sided. One side shows an intersection of four paths. The other side shows a curve. Before shuffling, decide how many double-sided tiles you want to have in your maze. The more intersections included, the easier the game will be.
Setup
Place the game board in the middle of the table. Shuffle the maze tiles face down, then place them at random face up on the blank spaces of the game board to create a labyrinth.
You will use all but 1 maze tile to create the labyrinth. Leave the remaining tile next to the game board for now. You will use it during the game to shift the maze walls.
Shuffle the secret item tokens face down and put them in a pile next to the game board.
Each player selects a wizard and places it on the start space of the same color in a corner of the game board.
Let's Play!
The youngest player begins, then the other players follow in clockwise order. The first player flips one of the secret item tokens face up, then changes the maze and moves their wizard to try to reach that item.
Changing the Maze
To change the labyrinth, push the extra maze tile into the labyrinth from the edge of the game board. Arrows show where you can push in the tile, which will push out the tile on the opposite side of the maze. Leave that tile there for the next player's turn.
If you push out a maze tile occupied by a wizard, place the wizard on the maze tile that you've just pushed in. This does not count as moving the figure for that player's turn.
After you change the maze, move your wizard. Exception: If you can reach the secret item without shifting the maze, you can move your wizard directly to the secret item.
Moving Your Figure & Revealing Secret Items
You may move to any space in the labyrinth that you can reach by following an uninterrupted path, or you may choose not to move. Multiple wizards may occupy the same maze tile.
If your wizard reaches the secret item, you have revealed it! You win the secret item token.
If you cannot reach the secret item, move your wizard to a space that brings you closer to it and gives you a head start for your next turn.
The next player takes their turn, trying to reach the same secret item. Play continues until a wizard reaches the secret item and wins the token. The next player flips over a new secret item token.
Winning the Game
The game ends when a player reaches the final secret item and wins the final secret item token. The player who collected the most secret items wins the game!
For a More Challenging Game
Assemble the game as described in Before You Begin, with the following exceptions. Use only the curve side of the double-sided maze tiles. Shuffle the secret item tokens face down and distribute them equally among the players. Each player puts their tokens face down in a stack in front of them.
On your turn, look at the secret item token on the top of your stack, but do not show it to the other players. Only you know the secret item that you must reach!
You must always first change the maze, then move your wizard. You must shift the maze even if you could reach your secret item without changing the maze.
You may not reverse the previous player's shift by pushing the extra maze tile back into the same position from where it was just pushed out.
Did you reach your secret item? Flip over the secret item token and place it in front of you. Your turn ends.
If you cannot reach your secret item, either move your wizard closer to your secret item to get a head start in your next turn, or stay where you are. Your turn ends, but you can try again in your next turn.
The next player looks at the secret item token on the top of their stack, shifts the labyrinth, and moves their wizard.
Winning the Game (Challenging Game)
The game ends when a player has reached their final secret item and their wizard has traveled back to their starting space. That player wins the game.
