Components
Each card has a tourist on the front and a set of destinations and objectives on the back.
There are three tourists: red pandas, hyenas and beavers. Tourists have affinity with certain destinations, and that affinity can be positive, negative, or both.
- Red pandas have positive affinity with 2 destinations.
- Hyenas can have positive affinity, negative affinity, or both, with 1 or 2 destinations.
- Beavers have negative affinity with 2 destinations.
There are four different destinations: countryside, beach, mountain and city. Cards usually have one destination, but there are 6 cards with a double destination, and they count as two in one.
Card anatomy (front): Value; Positive affinity; Negative affinity; Related destinations (affinities); Tourist type; Objective on the back; Destination on the back. Card anatomy (back): Destination; Objective; Tourist on the front.
Setup
- Determine the starting player at random.
- Shuffle all the cards and place 2 horizontally between both players. Make sure the cards show their destination side, and leave some space for more destinations. These will be the initial destinations and objectives.
- With the remaining cards form 4 piles of 4 cards each and set them aside.
The starting player begins the first round. In total, 4 rounds are played, and at the end of the last round the game ends immediately.
Round
Each round consists of the following steps:
- The starting player takes all the cards of one pile.
- Then they play 1 card and pass the other 3 to the second player.
- The second player plays 2 of the cards they have just received and gives the remaining card to the first player.
- The first player plays the card they have just received.
After these steps the round ends and the second player becomes the first player. If there is still at least one pile, a new round begins. If not, the game ends immediately.
Playing a Card
When playing a card you must choose whether to play it as a tourist or as a destination and objective.
Play a tourist card: Place the card on one of the destinations, in your play area: between the destination card and you. You must take into account the affinities of the tourist you place, since it can make you gain or lose affinity points. More details in the End of the Game section.
If there are other tourists at the destination, place the new ones on top of the previous one, so that it covers it slightly. This is important for some objectives in which you need to know the order in which you placed the tourists.
Play a destination and objective card: Attention! If there are already 5 destinations in play you cannot take this action.
Flip the card so that it shows the destination side and place it at one of the sides of the line of destinations. You must not alter the order of the destinations in play. When adding a destination you also add a new objective that will be taken into account in the End of the Game scoring.
End of the Game
After finishing the round in which the piles ran out, the game ends and it is time to see who did best. Each player adds up all the affinity points obtained:
- Each destination symbol of a tourist that matches the destination where it is located gives 2 affinity points if it is positive affinity, or -1 affinity point if it is negative affinity.
- You gain 3 affinity points for each destination that you control: the sum of the values of your tourists there exceeds that of your opponent.
- Calculate the affinity points obtained from the objectives. Each objective is scored by both players and involves all the destinations and tourists in the game.
The player with the most affinity points is the winner!
In case of a tie, the one who has played more tourists is the winner. If the tie persists, play another game!
