Components

  • 78 tiles
    • 60 tiles with 2 different symbols
    • 18 tiles with 2 identical symbols
  • 6 starting stones
  • 4 trays
  • 4 scoreboards
  • 24 point markers (4 sets of 6 colors)
  • 1 game board

Setup

  1. Place the game board on the table.
  2. Place the 6 starting stones onto the holes in the board.
  3. Remove tiles based on player count:
    • 4 players: use all tiles.
    • 3 players: remove one double piece of each color.
    • 2 players: remove all 18 double pieces.
  4. Each player takes a tray and 5 tiles.
  5. Each player takes a scoreboard and 6 point markers.

Gameplay

On your turn:

  1. Place a tile. Place 1 of your 5 tiles on two adjacent squares.
    • They must be on the same level.
    • You may not place a tile directly on top of a single tile.
    • Until every one of the 6 starting stones has an adjacent tile, you must place next to a starting stone that doesn't yet have one.
  2. Score. Score both symbols on your tile in the 5 directions from your tile.
    • Score 1 point for each matching symbol in an uninterrupted line (do not count the two symbols you just placed).
    • The level of the tile does not matter for scoring.
  3. Check for bonus moves.
    • For each point marker that reaches or crosses spots 18 and 27, call out "Simply Genius!" and get a bonus move.
    • Bonus moves can trigger additional bonus moves.
    • You must take the bonus move, and only draw new tiles after all bonus moves are completed.
  4. Draw back up to 5 tiles.
    • Before drawing, if none of your remaining tiles show any of your weakest colors — there can be more than one weakest color, but all of them must be missing from your tiles — you may instead discard your whole hand and draw 5 new tiles.
    • Shuffle the discarded tiles back into the supply after drawing.

Game End

When there are fewer than 5 tiles left in the supply after someone's turn, everyone takes 1 final turn without drawing or exchanging tiles — this also applies to the player who reduced the supply below 5. Whoever moved their weakest color the furthest wins. In case of a tie, compare each player's next-weakest color, and so on; if all colors match, the tied players share the win.

Special cases:

  • If a player can no longer place a piece, go directly to scoring.
  • If a player gets all of their colors to the maximum, go directly to scoring.
