46 cards with green letters on one side, red letters on the other.
Object of the Game
Be the first player to discover a word that starts with the designated initial letter and contains all of the green letters in play but none of the red letters.
Set-Up
Shuffle the 46 letter cards randomly (some with green sides up, others with red) and distribute an equal number to each player. The remaining cards are placed, red side up, on the table as a draw pile. Each player takes a pile of cards in hand, concealing them but not looking at them.
Play
The first player turns over the top card of the draw pile and places it, green side up, in the center of the table. (If the draw pile has been exhausted, then the first player plays the green side of the top card in his or her hand.) This letter will be the initial letter of the word to be found. All players (including the one who turned over the first card) now simultaneously turn over the top card in their hand, placing it alongside this initial green letter.
If both red and green of the same letter are played – and the green card in question is not the initial card – then the player who is quickest to tap the initial card claims all of the cards on the table and places them at the bottom of her hand. [If a red card with the same letter as the initial green card is played, then the winning word must start with the letter in question but not include that same letter elsewhere in the word.]
If two (or more) green cards of the same letter are played, the word to be found must contain that letter twice (or more).
As soon as a player thinks of a word that starts with the initial letter, contains all of the green letters, and none of the red letters, he announces the word. If the word is valid, that player adds all of the cards in the center of the table to his hand and becomes the first player for the next round.
If no valid word is found, the initial letter remains the same, but the other letters played are flipped over, one at a time, with a new search commencing each time. If no valid word has been found after all of these letters have been flipped, then the initial letter remains the same and all players simultaneously play the next card from their hand on top of the previously played cards.
End of the Game
The game ends when one player runs out of cards. The player with the most cards at that point wins.
