In a 2-4 player game, what can I defend against?

Only effects printed on cards with the attack icon. An exhaust ability that hurts you (the Celts' power is the example) cannot be defended against. You choose which of the attack's effects to ignore; the rest still resolve for everyone, and you cannot block positive effects you want to keep.
