After I become an Empire, can I still use or acquire Barbarian cards?

You can still acquire, break through for, keep and score barbarian cards, and cards already in your play area keep working, including their exhaust and Solstice abilities. What you cannot do is play new barbarian cards from your hand. The same logic applies in reverse: a barbarian can acquire empire cards but not play them.
