Components

  • 1 board
  • 1 sand timer
  • 198 cards
  • 4 pawns
  • 1 die

Objective

Move your pawn to the last ALL PLAY (TODOS JOGAM) space and be the first team to guess the word.

Cards

The cards are marked with letters that represent different categories of words. There are six possible categories:

  • P - person, place or animal - including their parts and characteristics.
  • O - object - things that can be seen or touched.
  • A - action - verbs or expressions that designate an action.
  • D - difficult - difficult words, from any category.
  • L - leisure - titles of films, books, games, sports, artists, etc.
  • M - mix - words from any of the categories.

Setup

  • The players must be divided into teams - at least two and at most four. There is no limit on the number of players per team.

Note: The game is faster and more exciting with fewer teams and more players per team. One of the teams may have one extra player if there is an odd number of players.

  • The cards must be shuffled, put back in the plastic cradle and placed in the center of the table. Pencils and paper must be provided for all teams.

  • Each team chooses a pawn and places it at the start of the board. Then, by any criterion, the teams must establish which players will be the first to draw and what the rotation order will be, so that each time the team plays, it alternates its players in the drawer position.

The Game

First Round

The starting space is an ALL PLAY space. The drawer of one of the teams takes the first card and, without anyone on their team seeing its content, looks at the word or expression in the MIX category. Then they show it only to the drawers of the other teams. When everyone is ready, the sand timer is turned over and the drawers begin to draw for the players of their teams, trying to make them guess the word in question.

The players keep proposing words until someone says the right word, or until the sand timer runs out.

The team that says the correct word advances its pawn the number of spaces indicated on the card in the MIX category. This team has the right to continue drawing (see FOLLOWING ROUNDS).

If nobody guesses the word, another card is drawn from the pile by the drawers of the teams to start a new round.

Following Rounds

On the team's turn, the drawer rolls the die to find out which category of word will be drawn. Then they take a new card and draw the word of the rolled category. This team continues playing until its members fail to guess the word. When they err, the turn passes to the team on the left.

General Rules

  • Each time a team is to draw, it must have a new participant as drawer (there will be a rotation).
  • The drawer may not use physical or verbal communication, however slight.
  • It is not allowed to use letters or numbers.
  • Two or more pawns may occupy the same space on the board at the same time.

ALL PLAY

When a team's pawn is on an ALL PLAY space, all teams take part in the round.

The drawer must roll the die to find out the category of the word they will draw. Then they take a card and show it to the drawers of the other teams. Then, as in the first round, all teams play at the same time.

Possible results of an ALL PLAY round:

  • One of the teams guesses the word first: that team receives the points indicated on the card and gains the right to continue playing.
  • Two or more teams guess the word at the same time: a new card is bought and the ALL PLAY round is repeated, with the same category, only with the teams that tied.
  • Nobody guesses the word: nobody receives points, and the turn passes to the next team.

Choose the Category

On some spaces of the board, besides ALL PLAY, the team whose turn it is has the right to choose the category of the word to be drawn (in this case, it is not necessary to roll the die). This way it may choose the word it considers easiest, or the one that will give it the most points.

Winner

To win the game, a team needs to move its pawn to the last ALL PLAY space and be the first to guess the word.

It is not necessary to obtain the exact number of points to enter the last space of the board. If the team that is on the last space of the board fails to guess the word first, it will lose its turn. From then on, to win, it will need to guess one more word, by guessing in a following ALL PLAY round or by waiting until its next turn to play. While this team waits for its chance to win, the others may catch up with it, and the contest will become even more exciting.

Important

Before starting the game, the players must agree on the degree of precision to be taken into account in order to consider a word correct. For example:

  • Does "Sector" count as "department"?
  • Does "Autodrome" count as "race track"?
  • Does "Einstein" count as "Albert Einstein"?

Once the criteria are agreed upon, everyone must remain faithful to them for the rest of the game, using them for any doubtful situation.

Using IMAGINATION, shall we play with MIMES?

Before the start of the game, the participants may opt to play by miming instead of drawing. This decision must be accepted by all players. In this case, it is not allowed to make drawings during the game, only MIMES! The rules for MIMES are the same as those for drawing.
