Components
- Game board
- Double-sided tokens - 37 total:
- Fire tokens (one player's) - 8
- Water tokens (the other player's) - 8
- Air tokens (neutral) - 12
- Earth tokens (neutral) - 9
Note: the backs of all tokens show the Earth symbol.
Object of the Game
Push all of the opposing element's tokens off the board, while keeping at least one token of your own element on the board.
Setup
Place the game board in the centre of the table. Place the neutral tokens (Earth and Air) next to the board. These tokens form the supply. The players choose the element they will play - Fire or Water. Then place the Fire and Water tokens as shown in the setup illustration.
Turn
On your turn, take any neutral token from the supply and place it on an edge space of the board. Passing is not allowed.
If only Air tokens remain in the supply, on your turn you may flip ONE Air token over to its Earth side, after which you must use that Earth token.
A - Edge of the board
- If the space is empty, nothing happens.
- If the space is occupied by another token, that token is shifted forward one space toward the centre of the board.
- Over the course of the game the board fills with tokens, so whole rows of tokens will be shifted, until tokens begin to be pushed off the board.
B - Shifting tokens
Illustration: a placed token shifts the tokens in its row/column forward.
C - Pushing off
Tokens that are pushed off are turned over to the Earth-symbol side and put into the supply.
Attention
- Air tokens can be pushed off the board only if they were shifted by an Earth token.
- Earth tokens cannot be pushed off the board. But they can be shifted to other spaces.
Г, Д, Е - Allowed and forbidden
- Г (Allowed): the push is allowed.
- Д (Forbidden): the push is not allowed.
- Е (Pushing off forbidden, shifting to the adjacent space allowed).
Removing Edge Rows
When an entire row on the edge of the board contains tokens of only one element, all tokens of that row are removed from the board. From that moment this row is not used in the game; tokens that end up on this row are considered pushed off the board. Toward the end of a game this significantly reduces the playing area.
- Ж: Earth tokens are not removed, because they are not on the edge of the board.
- Illustration: a row of Earth tokens is on the edge. Accordingly it is removed from the board.
Attention
- An edge row may consist of as few as 2 tokens of one element;
- as the board shrinks, a situation may arise in which removing one edge row removes another at once, because it becomes an edge row consisting of tokens of one element.
Example
The player with Water tokens places an Earth token (И) and shifts a row with it, pushing one of his own Water tokens out of the available board space (К). As a result, the edge row, consisting entirely of Earth tokens, is removed from the board (Л), reducing the board space even more. Consequently, with one row removed after another, two edge rows of Fire tokens are removed from the board (М). The player with the Water tokens wins (Н).
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as the last token of the opposing element is removed from the board. If the last move results in both players losing their last tokens, the game ends in a draw.
