Objectives and Duration of Game
The goal is to score the most victory points.
Players obtain victory points during the game by purchasing photo cards and at the end of the game via photo packs of the same colour (see Final Score).
This game is for 2 to 5 players, and lasts approximately 60 minutes.
Game Components
- This rule book
- 1 game board
- 1 First player card
- 25 Selfie cards
- 20 Album cards
- 20 Plane cards
- 50 Backpack cards - 10 of each color. Each color has: 7 cards worth 1€ and 3 cards worth 2€. A tourist symbol of a color indicates that these are that color player's starting cards.
- 60 Photo cards
- 65 cubes - 13 of each color
- 20 Rating tokens (6x, 6x, 6x and 2x of the four types)
- 5 Tourists - one of each color
- 5 scoring chips - one of each color
Game Set-up
- Place the following cards face up on the game board in separate piles: all Selfie cards, all Album cards and all Plane cards.
- Randomly place the Rating tokens face up in each region.
- Place the Photo cards face up in a pile next to the board.
Each player chooses a colour and receives the following items:
- 10 Backpack cards
- 1 Tourist
- 10 cubes, in a 5 player game, or
- 13 cubes, in a 4 player game
For 2 or 3 players, please see the special rules for 2 and 3 players below.
Each player shuffles their cards and places them face down, on their left side, thus creating their own drawing pile. The player draws 5 cards from the top and uses these for their turn.
How players should organize their cards during the game:
- Left side - Drawing pile (face down). Players draw cards from here to form their hand. If empty, players take all cards from their discard pile, shuffle them and place them face down here, thus forming a new drawing pile.
- Center - Hand cards. The 5 cards that players can use when playing.
- Right side - Discard pile (face up). Players place their used cards here, as well as the cards they may buy when playing.
Randomly choose the 1st player and give them the 1st player card, to be kept until the end of the game.
In reverse order of play, each player chooses a region - excluding the gray and orange regions - NOT yet occupied by another player and places their Tourist on the black circle and their Scoring chip on zero on the score counter.
Players play in clockwise order.
What a Player Can Do During Their Turn
On a player's turn, using the 5 cards they are holding, they can do the following:
- Buy cards that are available on the board.
- Move their Tourist on the board.
- Buy photo cards.
"Golden Rules" During a Player's Turn
- A player can make any move or purchase they like as long as they have the cards necessary to pay for these actions.
- Players always pay for the total cost of their moves or purchases at the end of their turn. There is no change available. The cards used to pay are placed in the discard pile.
- After playing and paying for their moves or purchases, if the player is still holding any cards, they MUST discard them in the discard pile. They cannot keep any cards for the following turn.
- A player ends their turn by drawing 5 new cards from their drawing pile to form a new hand for their next turn.
Buying Cards That Are Available on the Board
On their turn, a player can buy any card(s) that is available on the board: Selfie cards, Album cards and Plane cards.
The prices of the cards are shown on the board - 3€, 5€ and 6€.
If there are no cards left on the piles on the board, players cannot buy any.
The player pays the amount owed using the cards in their hand. The value of each card is shown on top left hand corner.
The cards bought are immediately placed in the discard pile (discard pile, on the right side, face down).
Example: the red player buys one Plane card, paying for it (6€) using the cards in their hand. Do not forget, at the end of the turn, to place the used cards in the Discard pile.
Move the Tourist
The tourist moves on the map on land (rope) or by sea (blue lines). Moves are always between 2 circles, black circles or grey circles.
Each move between 2 circles always costs 1€ (either on land or on sea).
There is no limit to the number of tourists on the same circle.
Players pay with cards they are holding. These used cards are then placed on the player's discard pile.
Example: the purple player moves his Tourist. The purple player wants to go to the Bragança region. He is 4 moves away. Player pays (4€) using the cards they are holding. At the end of the turn don't forget to place used cards on the Discard pile.
Buying Photo Cards
If a player's Tourist is on a black circle (and only in this case) they can buy a photo of that region. The player uses the cards they are holding to pay the price of the Photo card. The amount the player must pay is shown on the Rating Token of that region.
The price of the Photo card is also the amount of Victory points the player must immediately record on the score counter.
In each region there are 3 spaces for players to place their cubes. After buying a photo card, the player places ONE of their cubes on an empty space in that region.
Usually there are 3 empty spaces, but in games with only 2 or 3 players there are exceptions. See the special rules below.
Each player can buy only ONE Photo card from each region (place only one cube).
If a region does not have any empty spaces available to place cubes, it is not possible for players to buy photos from that region.
The photos bought are immediately placed in the discard pile (facing up).
Example: the yellow player is in the Madeira region and wants to buy a Photo card. From the pile of photo cards, the player takes one photo card corresponding to the Madeira region and places it on their discard pile. The player places their cube in one of the available spaces. They spend from their hand cards (5€) and immediately score 5 Victory points on the score counter. At the end of the turn, don't forget to place the used cards on the Discard pile.
Special Abilities of Cards
Album cards and Plane cards have special abilities, which players can use during their turns, if applicable.
Album Card
Each Album card a player holds is worth 2€.
Each Photo card is worth 0€ unless it is played together with an Album card. Each photo card is worth an extra 1€ for each Album card played.
Example: how to use the Album card's special ability. The red player holding these cards has a total amount of 10€.
- Backpack card 2€
- 1st Album card 2€ + Photo card 1€ + Photo card 1€ = 4€
- 2nd Album card 2€ + Photo card 1€ + Photo card 1€ = 4€
Plane Card
Instead of using the 3€ to pay for moves or cards a player can use this card to immediately place their Tourist on any circle with the airport symbol.
The circle the tourist is on (before using the card) does not have to have an airport symbol. It may or may not.
After using this card's special ability it should be placed in the discard pile just like any other used card.
Example: how to use the Plane card's special ability. The yellow player moves directly from the center of the Alentejo to the Madeira, using the special ability of the Plane card.
End of the Game
The game ends when one of the players uses their last cube. Players who did not play in that round may continue until reaching the player to the right of the 1st player.
Please note that if the player to use the last cube is the player to the right of the 1st player, the game ends immediately.
Final Score
In addition to the Victory points scored during the game, players win 10 Victory points for every set of 3 cards of the same color (either in their hand or in the Drawing or Discard piles).
Only two grey cards are needed to be worth 10 Victory points.
If the player has more than 100 Victory points they are counted 101, 102, etc.
In case of a tie, the last player in terms of turn order (farthest from the 1st player) wins.
Example: At the end of the game, if a player has 2 grey Photo cards (regions of Madeira and the Açores) they win 10 Victory points. At the end of the game, if a player has 3 purple Photo cards (Beja, Aveiro and Leiria regions) they win 10 Victory points.
Special Rules for Games with 3 Players
In each region the 3rd space for cubes with a Tourist symbol CANNOT be used. There are only 2 spaces available for cubes.
Each player receives 11 cubes in their colour.
All other rules apply.
Special Rules for Games with 2 Players
In each region the 3rd space for cubes with a Tourist symbol CANNOT be used.
Each player receives 12 cubes in their colour.
In those regions with the same color as the player's Tourist, as well as in the grey and orange regions (11 regions) two spaces are available for cubes.
In each of the remaining regions (9), place a cube of an unused color such that only one space remains available in these regions.
The space marked with a Tourist symbol is used in games with 4-5 players but NOT with 2-3 players.
Final Notes
Symbols in Colours
In the game, each colour (except gray) is associated with a symbol to make distinguishing colours easier for people who may find this challenging. It has no other function in the game.
The Photo Cards
Three tourist attractions represent each region. Luckily for Portugal many others could have been chosen, but unfortunately we only had room for three.
Who knows, perhaps in the near future we will release a new set of cards with your favourite tourist attraction.
