Game Materials

  • Solid wooden gameboard
  • Game ball of wood or synthetic material

Preparation

The HUSARENGOLF gameboard consists of a solid 29x42-centimeter wooden tray with two grips on each shorter side.

Eight hollows in either of two colors are inset in the tray, along with one small neutral hollow in the middle. A cushion of wooden strips borders the playing area.

In the two-player game, each player chooses one hollow color. In the four-player game, two players each form a team, with each team choosing a hollow color. The players of a team stand next to each other on one of the short sides of the gameboard and each player chooses one grip.

The players put the ball (wooden or synthetic material) in the small hollow in the middle of the gameboard and each player grasps his grip.

Course of the Game

On command, the game begins. Now a wild and sometimes arduous yanking and tilting, wrenching and jiggling takes place. The object is to maneuver the ball into a hollow of your own color. In doing so, you may never raise the gameboard above chest height.

When the ball has rolled into a hollow, you pause the game and score one point for the owner (or the team) of that hollow.

After that, the ball is put back into the small hollow in the middle of the playing area, and everything starts over.

During the game, it is forbidden to cause the ball to jump or play in such a way that the ball leaves the playing area.

In the heat of the moment, however, you can rarely figure out who has committed a breach of this rule.

But if a player is playing too wildly and makes the ball jump or hop out of the playing area, he (or his team) gets a one-point deduction.

End of the Game

The first player or the first team to reach 5 points wins the game.

Tips

Beginners will often try forcefully at first to move the sturdy game device in their favor. But you will soon find out that physical strength is not necessary or even wise; instead, you should employ subtle, tactile skills. Often it also leads to winning points if you get a feeling what the opponent wants to do and then counter with lightning-fast reactions.

The easiest way to bring a tall, strong opponent to his knees is to go down to your knees yourself. Since the ball, due to gravity, cannot roll upward, your opponent is forced to go down to his knees himself, and then any alleged advantage is quashed.
