3-5 players

Herlzlos is based on Hearts, a trick taking game played with a standard card deck, without trumps, which has been played popularly for generations and has many variations.

The object is to avoid capturing hearts which score the negative values stated at the top of each card (-x punkte) or the queen of flowers, at minus 25 points. The king of diamonds has a scoring value of +15 points.

Players are dealt cards as follows:

  • 4 players: 13 cards each
  • 3 players: (remove the 2 of cups) 17 cards each
  • 5 players: (remove the 2 of cups and 2 of diamonds) 10 cards each

5 rounds are played. In round 1, each player passes 1 card to his right-hand neighbour. 2 in round 2, etc., up to 5 in round 5.

The player with the 2 of flowers starts in every round.

You must follow suit if you are able.

At the end of each round players look at the tricks they have taken and score minus points for the hearts suit or for the queen of flowers, and one lucky player the 15 plus points for king of diamonds. The winner is the person with the least minus points after 5 rounds.

Should a player end any of the 5 rounds with all of the hearts suit and the queen of flowers, then regardless of the current point situation, he wins the whole game.
