Instructions for Game Set-up
1. The Turntables
Punch the turntable inserts out of the clipboard. Position them on the turntables as shown in the picture of the game set-up. Fit the cut-out part of the inner circle around the spinning spook support. Slide one side of the insert under the prongs on one side of the turntable, then the other side under the prongs on the opposite side of the turntable. [unreadable: remainder of this step]
Before you begin, make sure the turntables are on the green dots on the LEFT FRONT TURNTABLE and the cut-out corners on the game board are together. This will align the turntables for play.
2. The Spinning Spooks
Punch the spooks carefully out of the clipboard, then position them on the turntables as shown in the picture of the game set-up. Push the four spooks into their stands, sliding the grooves in their bases down over the center crosspieces on the supports.
3. The Backdrop
Push the four backdrop supports down into the grooves at the back of the game board.
Set up the backdrop by pushing the grooves in the bottom edge down over the center crosspieces on the backdrop supports.
4. The Wrathful Raven
Put the plastic extension through the triangle cutout on the backdrop with the split knob facing up (Figure A). Slide the extension through the opening so that only the large button is behind the backdrop.
Pull the extension DOWN. The extension should hang flat on the triangle cutout (see Figure B).
Punch the raven out of the clipboard. Punch the discs out of the raven. Snap the split knob on the extension through the hole in the raven (Figure B).
TO ROOST THE RAVEN: Swing the raven to the side as the extension stands upright on the triangle cutout (Figure C). Push the raven down slightly to hold it in the upright position. By pushing the raven to the side, it will swing down.
Complete Game Set-up
COMPLETE GAME SET-UP LOOKS LIKE THIS. The illustration is labelled RAVEN, HITCHHIKERS, WATCHMAN, DANCERS, SINGERS and GREEN DOTS.
IMPORTANT: Return the turntables to the position they are in this picture before putting the game board back in the box for storage.
Instructions for Game Play
The Object of the Game
To be the first player through the ghostly galleries and out the exit door of the Haunted Mansion.
Playing the Game
Each player chooses one Doom Buggy. High roll starts first.
Move your buggy onto the stepping-stone with the arrow and then along the path.
Game play moves to the left.
Players take turns moving their buggies the same number of stones as the total of both dice.
You may PASS another buggy on the path, but only one buggy can OCCUPY a stone at a time.
If your Doom Buggy stops on a stone occupied by another buggy, your opponent must move HIS buggy to the Ghoul's Graveyard and lose his turn.
Moving Your Doom Buggy
Always move in the direction your buggy points. Remember, you must point your buggy in the direction you want to go on your next turn.
You can NEVER move backward.
Your Doom Buggies MUST be moved each turn (unless you are in a trap and lose a turn).
The illustration beside these instructions shows: BUGGY STARTS HERE; BUGGY TURNS ON LAST STONE; BUGGY STOPS HERE ON 4th MOVE; and GHOUL'S GRAVEYARD.
A FOUR is rolled. Doom Buggy moves (3) stones to a dead end blocked by the Ghoul's Graveyard and a Do Not Enter Gate. It is TURNED AROUND on the last stone and completes the 4th move.
Always Obey the Signs
- You may choose any path. You cannot pass through the Crypt or the Graveyard as you move around the board.
- When your buggy stops on a stone with directions, follow them at once.
- If your buggy stops on a RED ARROW, point your buggy in the direction of the arrow.
- If your buggy stops on a space marked by ENTER, go at once into the area shown by the green arrow. After losing one turn, follow arrow out.
- A stop on a spiderweb drops the raven, blocking the exit (push the Raven to the side; it will swing down). No one can leave the Mansion.
- A stop on a spider raises the raven (put raven up in tree).
- Observe the color of the lantern as you approach the Watchman and his dog. If the lantern is green, move on in ANY direction. If the lantern is red, you must turn left.
- Go to the Dungeon if your buggy is TOUCHED OR KNOCKED DOWN by a SPINNING SPOOK. You must roll a (1) or (6) on either ONE of the dice before you can leave the dungeon, then move the same number of stones as the total on both dice.
- When blocked by the DEAD END HALL, turn around and go back. When blocked by the DO NOT ENTER GATES, turn around (as shown in the illustration) or go another direction. Always count the last stone as only one move.
Turntable Turn-around
When you stop on SPIN you must turn the turntable one dot right or left.
This turn can help you OR KNOCK OFF an opponent.
Once you start to turn the turntables, you must move it only in that direction and not change.
A buggy in the Graveyard or Crypt cannot be moved by the Spinning Spooks.
Winning the Game
The first player whose buggy goes out the exit door wins.
You do not need an exact total on the dice in order to go out.
If Raven or Hitchhikers Block Exit
Your buggy must turn around and go BACK the way it came.
The raven must be in the tree, and the Hitchhikers turned to another position, before you can leave the Mansion.
You CAN get caught at the exit between the raven and hitchhiking spooks.
If this happens, you must go to the Crypt and lose one turn.
Strategy
Check the game board before you move. See if you can do something to upset another player's progress:
- Try to stop on a spiderweb and block the exit.
- Try to turn the turntables so a Spinning Spook knocks his Doom Buggy into the dungeon.
How delighted the happy Haunts in the Mansion would be if you send them one more "guest"!
Game Storage
- Remove backdrop and lay it upside down in the box top.
- Carefully remove the spinning spooks and lay them in the recessed center of the backdrop.
- Lay dice and doom buggies in the center of the backdrop.
- Make sure the turntables are in the start position, then lay the game board face down in the box top.
